I actually liked the DS-61 I tried a lot more than I thought it would. I might grab one of these.
Also, the page is up:
As the name suggests, the DS-75 is a 7075 aluminum alloy version of the DS-61.
It’s technically “boosted”, which means it weighs less than the 6061 counterpart, even though the alloy is heavier. However, the weight is only slightly less and since the alloy is already in the name we went with “DS-75”. It would be weird and less cool to call this “Boosted DS-61”.
The point of the DS Series is to attempt pure performance. Performance over looks results in a stark aesthetic. It’s all business end. The fastest way to the rim is a straight line so no extra weight ends up in the mid-section. The additional width and additional rim weight give it the highest spin inertia we have ever released.

DS-61 is soo good, man might have to pick this up, we’ll see, I like 6061 over 7075
I wonder if anyone will prefer this over Thruline if they have one. DS is a bit too wide for me
Man, that fade looks sweet! ![]()
I’ve heard a few people say DS is better. Haven’t seen as many people recommending the Thruline, never used it though so I can’t say for sure
General reception wasn’t very good when Thruline was released. There are those, myself included, who call it underrated, but that is the minority
I have a Thruline, DS-61, and DS-75. Out of the three I’d choose the DS-75. I really enjoy the Thruline for its oversized nature, but the DS-75 feels more capable. It is wide, but it doesn’t have that big nearly 60mm diameter of the Thruline.
I figured as much
Why’s that? Besides the 60mm dia, which is crazy imo. Much harder to get used to than 50mm width
I think the dia is the main reason. @KirbyRobot did a review of it. He loves it but acknowledges why it wasn’t well received generally.

how come?

I always wondered if Thruline suffered a little from the terse description:
An experiment in algorithmically informed cross-sectional mass distribution.
There’s really not much to go on as far as calibrating expectations or generating curiosity.
People can certainly just not enjoy the dimensions, the shape, etc. But I think that some info about why these design choices were made can encourage people to examine their assumptions and maybe even preferences.
It’s also hard to say “not for me, but successful at what it was intended to do”, without knowing what it was aimed at. Or for that matter, “I should steer clear, because it definitely wasn’t designed to do what I am looking for”.
Could just be me though. . . Maybe the experiment worked as planned.
The diameter is obviously larger than average (for now), but it’s still smaller than Warlock, Wizard, Par Avion & Kraken. I don’t think it is that oversized, nor is the DS-61 that wide, IMO. Both stand apart from previous One Drops though, in their own ways (maybe in ways that don’t work for some people).
Maybe it’s bias because I’m more used to it, but it feels like it has more “personality”, 7075 feels sterile. Good, probably better for competitive/serious play because it feels more consistent, but it loses some of the fun factor. Not sure why. That being said, I didn’t feel a difference between the Rainier and Boosted Rainier, so maybe it’s placebo
The Rainiers were pretty close to the same weight, where the Wyverns were quite a bit different. I don’t really get the 7075 being sterile, but the OD 7075s are definitely more glossy. That may have some effect on perception.
I asked one drop on Instagram a while ago if they do anything different with the pyramatte finish for the 7075 aluminum and they said they do the same process as 6061. So I guess it comes out glossier because the metal is harder.
DS-75 - The Yoyo Archive - Info updated on The Archive!
Sterile in a feeling sense. Just feels a bit lifeless somehow? Like I slightly prefer the new horizon over the wilderness 7075, even though the wilderness is much less error prone and feels more consistent. Then again, I’ve never tested two identical yoyos back to back (didn’t own the rainier and boosted at the same time) so maybe I’m full of it lol. Idk
