Making tricks with a "formula" with Justin Dauer

This week, Justin Dauer was my guest on the “kill your yoyo” podcast.

Justin brought up an interesting idea about creating his competition tricks using a formula. For simplicity, I’ll define a formula as any structure or framework that a yoyoer uses to create tricks. This formula could be as simple as including a beginning middle and end or as specific as making tricks that start in font style, transition to horizontal, and always end in a fancy bind.

Have you ever found yourself using a formula to build your tricks? If so (or if you were to make one) what is it?

For me I often find myself making tricks based on shapes. Like I’ll consider a set of x and y axes and try to align all my movements with those, or I’ll focus on creating tricks that feel “round”.

If you want to learn what Justin’s formula is for making tricks that look good and win competitions then listen to the episode here!
