Let’s talk 3D printing

Looks great! Did you print the hub with supports (it looks like you did but confirming).

I did, the rings I was able to print without supports. I normally use pla as an interface when I print yo-yos in pet g but the googles told me that wasn’t an option with Asa and I didn’t have any Asa support material, so it’s not as clean as I wanted but it works as a proof of concept.

Some simple low profile yoyo stands. Nice for shelf / desk display.

Fresh print. The Cog.

It’s response system is inspired by Fallen44’s spiral response.

Now that’s cool

The Cog pattern on the outside is neat. but I think the swirl pattern on both sides would be cooler.

That’s not a bad idea…

My newest design for my new favorite style of play

I’ve had this idea rattling around in my head for ages but 3d printing alone couldn’t manage the intricate design. Little bits of rice would break off.

Printed Japanese 5 yen coin Asora caps. Laser engraver was used to mark the design on the caps. The hole makes for excellent pullstarts and I can see the little gem through them.

Got myself a sweet sweet care package from the ever incredible @AudreySickburn.
Can’t say thank you enough for the Pancake Trampler :pancakes:, the Green Eggs and Ham :cooking:, and the accompanying book for the new kiddo :green_book:! Absolutely love them, and you went above and beyond once again! Always amazed how Andy is able to blend novelty with fantastic playability! Killer throws!

Pardon my sleep deprived everything and coordination, just wanted to let you know they were getting some love!

That was incredibly impressive! Wow. I couldn’t even walked up the stairs safely after our kids were born :joy:

Amazing! I’ll have to show that one to my kids to blow their minds.

I can’t wait to get some cognizant play time out of them, haha! I put ketchup in my coffee the other day. Not recommended.

has anyone encountered a pulse wobble on some of their designs? it seems so far completely related to the shape of the yoyo. some of the yoyos are dead smooth, then carving out some different weight distribution will make the thing pulse wobble insane and unusable. changing from printed threads to side effects also presents no difference.

Yes aggressive pulse vibe can be a thing and is definitely shape driven. I’ve had designs pulse so aggressively they respond in their own.

What I have found is the wider the design the more pulse. I suspect this is because prints aren’t always 100% uniform so the wider it goes the more that affects spin. If a design pulses like nuts I will usually pull it in and make it a little less wide and a little more diameter to reduce it.

I LOVE THIS, I studied linguistics abroad in january for a month in Osaka and being able to actually use coins for everything was so nice

addressing both points - uniformity and width

uniformity - makes a bit of sense, but if uniformity due to the machine was a factor i would expect to see differences in pulse vibe per printer. however, the designs that pulse will do so on all my machines. includes both corexy and i3 styles. sadly, i haven’t finished a polar design to test that.

width - i would have to disagree here. i have a 45.3mm wide yoyo that is totally fine and a 38.38mm wide that will pulse. the 38.38mm will pulse or not depending on how i change weight distribution rim wise.

i have noticed that more organic shapes usually behave better. the more angular shapes have more tendency to pulse. i have not tried the freshly dirty stem system they gave me yet and am curious if that will make any difference, being a more fully realized bearing system. unsure if printed seats etc make issues more prevalent.

Made a updated version of my proyo design, now with pogs
