Let’s talk 3D printing

The standard a bearing FD ships out with the stems is unresponsive. It’s weird but fun.

I have an a bearing stem and tried it out but the response was a little lacking, I think because the gap was wider than the slim c.

If I recess the bearing seat a little more I think the a bearing would pop off.

Yeah I replaced the a bearing they sent with a greasy cheapo bearing.

True. I got slim a bearings and shims but your right not the default setup

I think I want to try to find a heavy dense filament like maybe an iron or copper filled and print a micro yoyo for the a bearing steam system. Need to research filaments a little more.

Neat idea. I found with wood filled pla it was lighter but also made an absolutely mess of my hotend. More abrasive additives I imagine would tear up the nozzle pretty easily.

I have a drawer filled with cht nozzles and nozzle x’s. Should in theory be able to handle some really abrasive stuff. Fingers crossed.

This is really cool!!

Thanks! That means a lot coming from you since it’s my obsession with your and Glens yo-yos that drove this haha.

I’ve actually been trying to 3d print an RBC for months when I couldn’t find one for sale. Unseen are dozens of failed prototypes that used side effects, fixed axles, and the mod44 system.

yoo that looks smooth

Can we get gap picture? I want to see how far the inner half of the stem protrudes.

Sure! Here is the gap from far off and an uncomfortable close up. I added a recess for the bearing seat to sit in, which protrudes maybe 1-2 mm.

Bonus shot because I’m pretty proud of this one. It’s 55 mm diameter like the original BUT it’s also within .1 grams of the weight posted on mk1.

Looks great. Did you use a sacrificial bridge to print the recess?

I used Prusa slicer’s auto generated grid supports and then poked a screwdriver through the axle hole to pop out the support.

I love this idea so I may have copied you.

We are all plagiarists on this blessed day. Looks great! Fixed axle?

No! I had a spare bearing kit so I threw a half-spec in and it plays like a dream. I tried a half spec in the FD Stem kit I have but I didn’t like the response.

Nice that’s clean looking

I love the idea that mark is taking too long to drop the plasm so folks are like. “Fine I’ll make my own”
