Japanese blade craftsmanship

If hese steels are so hard and hold an excellent edge, I wonder why they haven’t been uses for woodturning tools?

I don’t know, maybe the Japanese don’t traditionally used lathes? I’m sure they would work just fine, they would just need to be made longer than they typically are.

Do you know anything about Japanese chisels Glen?

Lathe chisels are very long. The shortest chisel I have is 15”. There is too much down force room the turning wood, and the kiridashi is too short to have a good grip. One bad bite, and the wood would probably end up throwing a razor blade across the room.
