Oooooh, copper!
I’d buy another if i could afford it ![]()
Want to revive it? Here’s how.
Spread some Motorsil D in the grooves, smooth them out with a card or credit card, and let it dry (40 minutes max). Since it’s thin, it won’t hold up, but you’ve got a custom-fit pad! Now, remove them, apply double-sided tape to the back of the pads, reinstall them, and happy throwing!
Have you tried that as a dif pad replacement? How thin of double sided tape are you using, I think the tape I have is thicker than modern pads![]()
I’ve always used this method to make Project pads (I have about ten .555s, but they’re stiff, and I didn’t like them even when new). The double-sided tape I have is very thin, but I think you’ll have no problem finding it at any stationery store. The one I have is like transparent Scotch tape; you probably have the white one, about 1 mm thick, that looks like it’s made of foam.
I’ll post a photo of the Project later.
Nice. In orange/red too, I’m ENVY ba-dum-tss
Anxiously waiting for my Ghost Pyro.
I’ve been thinking about it for a while, honestly… the 20th anniversary colorway, reminiscent of the YYN edition, isn’t bad, but I’m not entirely sold on that pewter color… I’ve never liked black in general, and the ghost really masks the laser decorations and then when I see raw or similar raw yo-yos with laser engravings, they remind me of the Sumo Ghost, which was essentially an unconditional surrender to the inability to find a suitable anodizer in Italy after dozens of tests… in my mind, as an Italian, it practically reminds me of a defeat… so I said to myself, red/orange is the most classic, widespread, and even iconic in my memory of this yo-yo, so let’s go for it!
Did you get it long ago? I think I’ll have to wait several weeks for it to arrive home…
p.s. it was the last one in this color! ![]()

Oh… Understandable.
Well, can’t go wrong with the classic colors.
Did you get it long ago?
Ordered it like a week and a half ego. It usually takes like a 2 - 2.5 weeks to arrive, but this one is extra nostalgic for me (used to drool over original bright red and orange Pyro as a kid), so natural I just can’t wait to get it in my hands.
it was the last one in this color!
Congrats ![]()
Also, not the one who asked, but huge thanks for you vintage pads advice. Something like .555 pads are quite a rarity nowadays.
Yes, they’re very hard to find these days, and if you can find them, they were probably made many years ago, so either they’re hardened, the adhesive isn’t sticking very well, or both. I didn’t even like them when they were new; the yo-yo wouldn’t always spring back, and they felt too slippery (I think it’s because of the hardness of the material they’re made of). I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Markmont actually modified the grooves to accommodate liquid silicone. I’ve been using that method for many years; the groove acts as a mold for the liquid silicone, and then double-sided tape secures them. I always recommend Motorsil D because of the countless types of silicone that I have used over the years it has proven to be the most efficient and advantageous… the advantages are that it is self-leveling so it is difficult to create air bubbles, it dries very quickly, after 40 minutes the yo-yo is usable again (for all the others it takes several hours), it has a good grip without being too violent and has a good duration as it does not wear out quickly.
Question for those who have already received it: how is the packaging? Thanks! ![]()
Mine comes next week, finally pulled the trigger on one, went with the blue/dark blue. Realizing it’s going to be on the heavier side and also realizing potential for some quicker string wear due to engraving. Hopefully wear is minimal but will have to keep an eye out.
I cannot fathom for the love of God why they decided not to modernize the pads?! That is just insane.
They did!
That’s not what I read on the design notes. I don’t really care or wish to spend any further time defending or whatever. Doesn’t matter.. I could care less quite frankly
