I would imagine it is the same as making single colored string, only you would use thinner thread of varying colors, spin those into thicker thread and then use the new thicker thread to make string.

watch my video and instead of going around 6 times with thread go around 3 times with two colors

Sorry, but I didn’t feel like a vid. But basically, what you do is, you make 2 complete loops, cut the string, tie it to a string of a different color, and then make another 2 loops.
