Yeah to be fair some memes have amused me in the past but a lot of the time they are the equivalent of fully grown adults posting a list of names on social media with a title like âList of names of those who are on a list of namesâ or something to that effect, tagging their friends and posting three or four laughing until crying emojis afterwards.

I did say a lot of the time they are the equivalent of, which doesnât mean that I donât know what memes are. I am saying that often memes are that lazy although granted I didnât explain that too well.

Memes are the same as all comedy. Most of it misses the mark, but some is fantastic and hilarious. The main difference is that memes are the comedy of the internet age, and just like opinions, you are exposed to basically all of it, including that which does not meet your taste or quality standards.
Comedy used to be filtered to the least common denominator by television, HBO specials, even newspaper funnies. It still is filtered in these mediums, so you rarely see âbadâ comedy in those media. But the internet is the equivalent of sitting in an open-mic-only comedy club 24/7 for years. Most of it will not be funny.
