Empty_Feature
The empty is a special collaboration between yoyorecreation and empathy, created as a subtle nod to the era that helped define modern yo-yo culture. With clear inspiration drawn from the iconic YoYoJam hybrids of the past, this release blends multiple materials in a way that feels instantly familiar, yet fully refined for today.

In play, the empty captures that lightweight, floaty feel and capped sensation that made YoYoJam designs so memorable. At the same time, it delivers the precision, smoothness, and premium finish you expect from yoyorecreation and empathy. The result is a yo-yo that feels nostalgic without being dated, combining old-school character with modern performance.

If you are looking for a throw that brings back the feeling of earlier hybrid designs while offering the consistency and quality of current manufacturing, the empty is an easy recommendation. A thoughtful homage and one of the most enjoyable hybrid releases of the year.

I just can’t with these prices. YYJ XCON was $40 in 2005 which is only $65 today so don’t try and pull the inflation card.

It’s probably Yoyorec. They’ve always had premium prices for some reason. I also am super intrigued but am a bit hesitant because of the price.

The Xcon was injection molded and all of them cracked.

The machined Crucial Cream was $75 in 2010 which is $111 today.

Since it’s a Tony Sec brand collaboration, I doubt they have a 50/50 split on the sales hence the expensive price for a hybrid machined yoyo

I tried out each of these while I was in Asia a few weeks ago and it plays amazingly. Drop dead smooth and doesn’t have that hollow feeling many metal capped yo-yos have. I personally prefer the POM body one for the better finger grinds.

Yoyorecreation makes the highest quality Yo-yos, but they certainly charge you for it.

You guys are not making this one easier to resist

Price to machine stuff and raw material cost is up. Tariffs for importing stuff from overseas, value of the dollar is low while gold is high.

Also over 100 is about where bi material stuff is in the market right now… honestly machining plastic is about as expensive as machining al so hybrids today are really about as expensive or more to make than bimetals.

If it was an injection mould I would agree price is off but no one’s doing that today because of fragility and cracking issues on hybrids.

The only reason hybrids where priced low for as long as they where was there was a bit of margin for passion projects to thrive but that’s gone now and any brand that wants to make a good hybrid that doesn’t cost them to make it is going to have to charge bimetal prices for it sadly where we are but I bet it plays awesome.

If it helps with your attempts to resist the urge, when I tried the PC version at worlds I was very underwhelmed :face_with_tongue:

It felt very lacking in power and stability, rather uncontrollable, and the light weight and caps made it feel very hollow and empty (I know, I know, but it’s the most appropriate descriptor).

The POM one might be better as it weighs a bit more that the PC at least.

a yoyo that i had, sold, and thought “i dont think this is worth $120”, definitely felt too light for my tastes and I had the POM one

IMO if you’re looking for YYJ nostalgia you’ll find the empty lacking the distinctive “brick” quality that many of the cult classic yoyojam yoyos had..

the yoyo name is indeed, accurate.
