I learned from this site that a whole lot of people buy so many yo-yos, I hope I don’t have to do that and can just use my Silenus yo-yo and the konkave bearing from the echo 2.
I don’t really care about becoming a pro, as I just use it for fun. But looks like I have to do alot of replacing of parts later on.
I use the yo-yo 1 or 2 hours a day. Use to be all day… but that was when i wanted to learn boingy boing. Yes I did cry during the practice sessions because the trick would come back then I would lose the trick later on for weeks. It was beyond frustrating, sometimes you had to pretend you where not practicing, but still trying. Don’t know if that makes sense.
I did practice other things like around the world and stuff, this trick was out of his world to learn, and I hope people that are trying to learn it to not give up. It was hard but you will get it if you stick with it.
It is indeed a very tricky trick. Unless you know the secrets.
Okay I’ll get that. I was using trumpet oil. But if that makes my yo-yo/ bearing last longer then that’s the better choice for me. Yo-yoing looks like an expensive hobby.
It’s not an expensive hobby at all. A bottle of lube will last you years and years. Strings wear out with a lot of use so it’s good to have a bunch on hand. If you have a yoyo you love there’s no reason to buy another one. For the price of a movie or a few bags of potato chips you can order a spare bearing or two.
Trumpet oil may be fine but don’t use more than a tiny drop. Lots of lube will give you less spin. For $1 you can get a bottle of plain acetone (nail polish remover) at Walmart to soak your bearing in to clean out any gunk. After it’s thoroughly dry you can put in a tiny, tiny drop of lube.
You can FEEL and see when a string is worn out. You’ll just KNOW when it’s time to change it. Tricks don’t feel the same. It gets slippy. It looks beat up, worn out and frayed.
These thin slackies one get frayed and done for in about 3 hours using the silenus. Just now I switched to a new string and did the gerbil trick first try.
But changing the string that often would really suck, I’m shure you can do this gerbil trick with any string once you have it down good. Or not, it really slows the yo-yo down… I just learned about that now.
I can boingy boing even on the most frayed, worn string, I have a string from last year that I kept since kitty string never snapped in half on me (fat version) and still did the boing on this really old string.
Everyone has their own preferences. I don’t use just one yoyo and throw it for hours every day. I like Zipline Signature strings or Bad Wolfe Co Goldilocks thickness poly/nylon blends. They are thicker than standard strings and last a while. The amount of use a string gets will determine how long it lasts. There’s a million “which string should I get?” threads right here. If you are practicing non-stop just order in bulk. 100 Kitty strings will last you a while.
Your descriptions of damage to your yoyos are cryptic at best. Please post clear photos. There may be solutions to correcting the damage. There are a lot of knowlegable people here.
