Dry bearing

People have been posting things about leaving the baring dry so I tried it out (I have 3 extra baring) I cleaned the baring and put it on my black knight and guess what it has been 2 days ( I played with it 8h a day) and the baring is still fine it is a little rough if you spin it your finger slowly … The baring might last for another 2-4 days the bearing is from CLYW

I always leave my bearings dry and there always play fine.

A bearing, regardless of being dry or not, should last years if you aren’t playing them in water or sand or something, and as long as it isn’t just a bad bearing.

Playing your bearings dry isn’t some sort of magical curse that causes them to explode overnight. It just isn’t good for them and will lead to premature wear.

my unresposive bearing i just got from yyj for my yyj revolution, i just put lube on it and it became responsive? why???

Lube causes resistance and therefore increases response
Yes all lube
Yes 100% of the time
See the “cleaning your bearing” post to remove it

hmmm…were is that post?

I’ll just say that ALL bearings made and sold by the manufacturers are packed with lube for them to last a long time. the only way they won’t come with lube is if the yoyo manufacturer requests them dry. When they do this the bearing manufacturer automatically voids the warranty. Of course the yoyo manufacturer doesn’t really care because they are so cheap. I will NEVER run any bearing dry. I have a bearing from a YYJ lyn fury that is at least 4 years old and is still spinning long and true. I’ve also had quite a few dry bearings crap out on me and I’ve never had one last longer than a month. That’s not saying they won’t last longer but why take the risk? If you have the money to constantly buy bearings then run em dry. Just don’t tell anyone that it won’t hurt anything because that is simply not true.

Like Icthus and mrcnja say, a dry bearing will wear out. Metal on metal causes friction and wear. I also find that a lightly lubed bearing runs a lot smoother than a dry bearing.

Here:

It will wear out the bearing.
It will take a long time.
I don’t personally mind paying $24 every year and a half to get my throw to behave in the manner in which I am accustomed.

I have a couple bearings (2 concave, 1 spyy, 1 terrepin-x and 1 yyf) that are broken in, run dry and rotate out of the throws I use. When I get new throws, I pull the bearings and store them till one in my rotation wears out. If you do this, you will alway have a stock of pristine bearing for trade and/or dust collection. I do this weekly, not daily. pulling the bearing out of a yoyo 7 times a day can screw up the bearing seat if you’re not gentle.

Reccommend you try running lubed for a day or 2 to let it break in and see if your comfortable with it before you go through the trouble of cleaning it though.
