Is there any yoyos that look and play like Clyw yoyos without the outrageous Apple prices?
other yoyoâs made by other brandsâŚ? just go on the yye store and look at the stuff haha.
the prices arenât outrageous, hard work goes into more than just getting yoyoâs machined. They do a really good job at having a great brand. Sometimes itâs nice to have options for higher end stuff.
Keep in mind that if you are looking at true knock-offs, you get what you pay for. There are a lot of quality yoyos made by reputable companies that are inexpensive and play very well.
CLYW yo-yos with dings.
You took the words right out of my mouth, dude.
Also check out the Fools Gold releases. Their yoyos that might have slight ano flaws or a little vibe. Usually between $65-75 each.
Donât ever buy a knock off CLYW. Chris pits too much into his company to go out and pay someone for ripping off his hard work. Just think how youâd feel about it if you were in CLYWâs shoes.
I was expecting this to be a thread reporting some knockoffs, not someone searching for them hahaha. I canât think of any, but just remember - You get what you pay for. Buy a used or a fools gold CLYW if you really want to try them out.
Same here ![]()
There are plenty of cheaper brands out there that have copied/mimicked the CLYW splash anodized look. I wonât name any specific brands or models so I donât offend anyone, but take a look around the YYE store and youâll see plenty of them.
But if you want my opinion, donât waste your money on knockoffs and wannabes. Regardless of how well they play or look, theyâll never be as collectible/desirable/valuable as a legit CLYW. Search for a genuine used CLYW off of the BST or eBay and you will usually get one for much lower than retail. I got a pretty much mint Arctic Circle 2 off the BST for $70 about a month ago⌠thatâs a HUGE savings off what they originally retailed for. That included the original box/inserts as well.
This is not a fair comment or reflection on other reputable companies. Splash anodizing is not an exact science and the fact that other reputable companies are making cheaper products that may resemble others is mere coincidence. CLYW did not invent the process. It has been around a long time.
I realize they didnât invent the technique, but they did popularize it and it became a signature trait on their throws that I think many other companies took notice of. Iâm not saying itâs a bad thing or a crime that others have done it. Iâm merely pointing out that if the OP wants a yoyo that âlooksâ like a CLYW, there are other brands that have made yoyos with a similar look.
yoyos with splashes donât look like CLYW yoyos. yoyos with splashes look like yoyos that have splashes on them.
Or it could be they used the same anodizer? Ever thought about it that way? Despite what many think, CLYW does not from what I know own their own CNC machine or anodizing set up, they use out side machine shops and anodizers.
