canāt speak for Seth but at the recent suggestion of @Ironical_Monocle1 i used a Mr Clean magic eraser. Jason was right, just a little elbow grease and you got a blank cap
I sanded it off. Just did it all by hand. My neurodivergence enjoys small detailed sanding jobs though. It probably took an hour or two to get it where I liked it.
I tried a magic eraser too. I donāt know if I just had a bunk brand or what, but it wouldnāt touch the logo on mine. I tried scrubbing hard too.
I tried taking it up to 500 grit and that was still too sticky for tape measures. It definitely looked a little nicer but I took it back to 220.
I can relate so hardā¦
Wait what. Are you sanding more than just the caps? How is sanding affecting the ability to tape measure, Iām confused how a finer grit paper would be less able to tape measure?!?! I guess Iāll have to just experiment myselfā¦this is the exact opposite result as Iād expect.
The local Target had quite a few of the new Butterfly colors today. Unfortunately, none of them had the Snoopy theme. As usual, they were very inexpensive. I had to show restraint, my wife was looking at me sideways.
Sanded everything but the gap. Not sure the science behind it all. Also, it still jumps a little if your hands are sweaty, but not as much as the glossy finish. I imagine itās a similar concept to better grinds with blasted finish opposed to glossy finish.
I wonder if it works similarly to the circumferential grooves on a tire or the outsole of a shoe.
Interesting, Iāll have to give this a try on some of mine; I used to get alot of joy sanding my Rubikās cube internals way before hardware quality improved a ton in the last 15years.
I wonder what grits I have on handā¦Nothing like experimentin!
Every time I manage to make the hike to Target (there isnāt one real close so we always have to kind of plan the trip ahead) theyāre sold out of whatever I go there for so I was pleasantly surprised to find these happy little friends in the bargain bins. I was hoping for one of each colour but 3/4 isnāt too bad I suppose. Iāve also been looking for that elusive pink Imperial for awhile too, so I guess its a fair trade
itās a balancing act. from a physics perspective you have to give it enough texture to reduce fiction between two very smooth surfaces (i.e. your hand and a glossy yoyo) but not so textured that it becomes rough and starts increasing friction again. thereās a sweet spot
Iām just surprised that sanding with grits in the hundreds results in less friction than a stock glossy finish. Alas this is all intuition so I just need to go try it out and compare for myself.
Guys I need help and this is the only butterfly thread I know of
I wanna take the caps off but idk how too and the axle is in the side, I really donāt wanna damage the axles or the caps, whatās the best way??
This thread has a pretty detailed walkthrough on disassembling a Butterfly.
Thanks!
for the cap removal part i found it easier for me to put a small bit of insulating tape on the tip of a phillips screwdriver and i just held the half in my hand and gave the screwdriver a tap with a rubber mallet. popped right out
Showed up for a play outing with my son and found out that one of his friendsā older brother is into yo-yos. He was playing an old no name wood one that wasnāt sleeping and also apparently has an unresponsive one but itās too hard for him. His favourite colour is orange so Iām going to hook him up with this
