A "Real yoyo"

Hey guys, I want to say something. I’ve been noticing a lot of people (including myself when I was a begginer) say “My first yoyo was this cheap light up yoyo but my first real yoyo was a Lyn fury, or Kickside, or w/e it is”. What is a real yoyo? I consider a real yoyo a yoyo that is conncted to a string and that can also be thrown down and return back to your hand or spin on the end of the string. Yes, that cheap light up yoyo from a unknown brand sold in walmart is a real yoyo as long as it comes back to your hand, if it doesn’t, sue them. Some people say “Ok, my first TRICK yoyo was Lyn fury, Kickside, w/e”. Well I consider Gravity Pull as a trick. Also if you practice enough with a cheap yoyo and then switch to something with a bearing I’m 100% sure you can do it with that yoyo. Then you guys might say “My first SERIOUS or COMPETITION WORTHY yoyo was this or that”. Like I said above a yoyo can be serious or competition worthy if you practrice with it enough. So I want to end this saying that when you say my first real yoyo, or serious yoyo, or trick yoyo was blank, why don’t you just say my first yoyo that got me learning tricks was blank?

Its just a term, I guess. Although that is a very good point.

Yeah. Good thing to know.

I don’t think they literally mean a “Real yoyo” it just means a yoyo that spin more then 2 seconds.

Yes but if they mean a yoyo that spins more than 2 seconds is a real yoyo then it’s false. A Duncan Imperial is a yoyo but it doesn’t spin for more than 2 seconds to some people.

a duncan imperial is a toy yoyo,

First off, if you can’t spin an Imperial for more than 5 seconds or so, there’s a real problem. Secondly, all yoyos are toys. From Imperials and ProFlys to Catch 22s and Oxygenes, they are toys.

Its just termanology we yoyoers use. Think of “A real YoYo” = a good metal or decent bi-metal yoyo. It also just depends on how each person views this…

Well, some beginners might have really weak throws, I remember when I first throwed a imperial I couldn’t get it to spin for a seconds. And I agree yoyos are toys, sometimes heavily modified with expensive metals, anodization effects, and ceramic bearings but they are still toys IMO.

your crazy for saying yoyos are toys, I consider the full metal ones as lethal weapons.

I’d also like to add, that a person makes the yo-yo, the yo-yo doesn’t make the person.

Gizzyo

Amen to that. Especially after seeing what Ed can do on those wooden axles. (The imperialism vid is SICK :o)

When I tell people about my first yo-yo, I say it was a standard play yo-yo. I say my first compeitition yo-yo:

“Well, the first yo-yo I ever got was a duncan proyo. Though my first professional grade yo-yo was a Grey Fox.”

yes good point i get asked that at school like “Is that a trick yo-yo”
kinda makes me mad but i will have ot go with it…
