I wanted to make this data driven..

so I scraped all of yoyoexpert and put the data in a graph.

not adjusted for inflation, data not fully sanitized so if you spot issues let me know..

Would be good if you could figure out the median price before the tariffs.

Yes, but retailers can’t or won’t necessarily eat those tariffs, as it negatively impacts their profit margins, so one way or another, the costs get factored into the retail price.

Agreed, there is a cost no matter what. But is the cost the same?

As a hypothetical, let’s say that there is a good that retails worldwide at USD $100, wholesales for USD $75, and is only available from sources that are tariffed at 25%.

If I buy from an overseas retailer, I expect to pay USD $25 in tariffs.

When a retailer pays wholesale to import directly or buy from an importer, are they paying USD $18.75 in tariffs?

A portion of the tariff is definitely absorbed by the manufacture, retailer, and other parts of the supply chain.

Any party in the process / supply chain can choose to absorb a price hike related to or associated with tariffs and not pass it on or not in its entirety.

Whether a portion of the tariff is being absorbed by one of the supply-chain players is immaterial to me. I am paying more money and the sellers are making less. This seems like a lose/lose to me. The only one winning is the US government; raising money on the backs of the working stiff while the mega-billionaires make more and more. Yeah; make America great…

Has the Supreme Court’s decision on tariffs removed the tariffs on Chinese yo-yo’s? If so, will we expect the prices to fall soon?

Asking for a friend.

God, I hope so. I still think we’re barely seeing the effects of the tariffs. Most of the yoyos coming out right now were in the prototyping/production stages pre-tariff afaik?

Yoyo production can be quick, but in a lot of cases, it can take forever. I know of at least a few yoyos getting public releases rn that have been in development for a couple years now. My own yoyo took, like, over 9 months? It was a slow process. It’s even slower now.

Tbh I’m hoping it’ll all blow over, and the worst we’ll see is yoyos that cost $125 being like… $145, then easing back down. But as long as the big T things domestic is the move… yoyoing is cooked.

I hadn’t noticed a general price increase, but I was able to purchase two YYR yo-yos from YYE after what seemed like an import drought.

I mean inflation won’t help with prices of anything regardless and the Iran situation will continue that issue as oil drives everything (literally)

I am afraid that yo-yo prices will be just like taxes. Once they go up, they tend to stay there. It seems like yo-yo’s used to be $100-125. Now it is $125-150, with some over $200 now. That is roughly, a 20% price increase.

Yeah, even if the cost does go down, that just gives companies a bigger profit margin. Why wouldn’t they want to make more money? :face_with_bags_under_eyes:

they still have to strike a balance. higher price doesn’t equal higher profits if ppl buy fewer yoyos as a result

You do have a point

On the flip side, if demand increases due to tariffs being struck down, prices may have to stay elevated to stave it off

Some might do that but reality is import fees may vanish but if it still costs the factory x extra to get materials and factory keeps prices higher then the YoYo brand will see same high prices and have to continue to adjust even if prices elsewhere deflate or shipping reduces in cost. Like sure your not getting the import fee but also the manufacturing cost increased since last year so prices are kind of same

I got some in last week from Japan and was surprised when I didn’t get hit with any tarrifs. Also got one coming in this week from China with no tarrifs. Both were under $100.

And here a month ago I had something from Japan and last week got a surprise 20% import fee from fedex

Im worried about that.

Some companies have eaten the costs of the tariffs. I know YYFs does. I ordered some stuff from Spintricks a couple weeks ago and got the tariff email, but it was only $30 if you pay in advance and $50 if you pay on delivery.
