Would be good if you could figure out the median price before the tariffs.

Yes, but retailers can’t or won’t necessarily eat those tariffs, as it negatively impacts their profit margins, so one way or another, the costs get factored into the retail price.

Agreed, there is a cost no matter what. But is the cost the same?

As a hypothetical, let’s say that there is a good that retails worldwide at USD $100, wholesales for USD $75, and is only available from sources that are tariffed at 25%.

If I buy from an overseas retailer, I expect to pay USD $25 in tariffs.

When a retailer pays wholesale to import directly or buy from an importer, are they paying USD $18.75 in tariffs?

A portion of the tariff is definitely absorbed by the manufacture, retailer, and other parts of the supply chain.

Any party in the process / supply chain can choose to absorb a price hike related to or associated with tariffs and not pass it on or not in its entirety.

Whether a portion of the tariff is being absorbed by one of the supply-chain players is immaterial to me. I am paying more money and the sellers are making less. This seems like a lose/lose to me. The only one winning is the US government; raising money on the backs of the working stiff while the mega-billionaires make more and more. Yeah; make America great…
