Riforgiate Design - Prototype Run

Ron Howard: It’s not just you

I mean… I could?

Especially if there’s enough interest in that sort of thing…

Might be because I’m just kinda scattershotting and going stream of consciousness plus a bit of editing. I could organize things a bit better if I tried.

What sort of things would you want to see in a design booklet? Other than the random stuff I’m tossing in here, I wouldn’t know where to start…

I’ve always liked picture books, lol. Probably why I play so much yo-yo. Pictures of the journey with some commentary would go a long way!

Found this quite fitting image on the internet.

I would be interested. I dunno know maybe walk people through the process of machining a yo-yo including all the tips and tricks you know.

@Lotaxi - We’ll have to do some collab to get a good writeup on the Archive at the end!

That’s the best part!

We are currently investigating having the spindle rebuilt. I took this video for the guys who might be fixing us up.

Nothing like standing next to a machine and getting blasted by 92-95dB.

Nothing to be super concerned about, everything still works well enough to keep going as-is, but it’s definitely a source of surface defects and likely the remainder of the vibe I see in the stuff I make. Should be a jump in quality, getting this fixed.

same here tbh

As a former datacenter tech I feel this on the noise front. You’ve never known noise until you walked into a room and it is like a wall of noise

Here’s the volume just inside the housing.

Here’s the volume at the operator’s panel.

It got to like 115 when measuring inside the motor housing.

These should be AT MOST like 70dB.

dude 97 dBA slow is almost a dancefloor lol. i hope you have hearing protection in, 97 dBA slow can cause permanent damage in like 15-20 minutes.

Lol it’s so bad.

Earplugs are a requirement for working around the thing.

I use good IEM’s so I can listen to music and stuff while I work. They cut out like 30dB I believe. I should get custom fitted tips at some point though.

Yeah i worked in a datacenter that was so heavily populated with equipment and all of it was so hot and the cooling was set to bare minimum so fans where always maxed out.

Usually db hovered around 96 between the racks. I often wouldn’t wear ear protection and I have hearing damage because of that.

It was also often 98 degrees f on the hot isle and 58 on the cold side.

Fun stuff.

Don’t ruin your hearing for a job. It’s not worth it

This project is turning into a journey for the consumer… so cool.

I just hope it doesn’t start feeling like I’m taking you on a trip… Reeeeeeeally wanna avoid that at all costs lol

It’s just seemed like people are interested in the learning bit

I wouldn’t worry about that, nothing seems to move fast in YoYo. Most, if not all of us, are accustomed to pre-orders and waiting for drop days. These are some of the best updates I have seen for any throw. This throw is also unique, BPT… Titanium… it is a throw worth the wait.

Plus you’re just getting started and that generally comes with a few difficulties.

Over communication is always better than none

Just re-iterating both points because I think they are important. To add my own spin, not only are we getting regular communication, but it’s not just:

hit a snag. will let you know

9 months later

fixed the snag, 6 months ago. hit another one 1 month ago. will keep you up to date

Nothing gives me more joy than to see how things are made (Except watching that show. Didn’t care for it for some reason). This throw has better communication than most pronounced companies on Kickstarter.

Personally, I really appreciate all the details!

To be honest. I like how you’re putting it here. It feels natural, as if you were talking with us in person. A diferent format might make it cold and impersonal… and probably tedious for you, “Oh, I have to follow this format and that convention”

What would I like to see? More photos haha, even if theyre non-yoyo related but that serve as samples of the proccesses that our yoyos go through. But that’s me. Share anything you can as long as it’s not a hassle
And if you make the booklet, you have to sign it :stuck_out_tongue: haha
