Is the Japan model any different?
If you look at the pictures above you will notice that the aluminum rings on the yoyo are slightly different! The inner diameter/most lateral portion (Lateral meaning going away from it’s self) bows out away from the yoyo. I according to YYF it is to add more “rim weight” and aid with “thumb grinds”.
Does it play any different form all the other protostars???
Well sad to say it doesn’t play any different in my opinion. Ill play the Japan model and go to my regular model and I can’t feel or see any difference. The finger grinds and thumb grinds suck the same --\_\_-- and the yoyo doesn’t spin any longer.
Does it feel any different?
Actually no… It feels just like any other solid color ProtoStar or NorthStar.
Should one buy the yoyo?
Well it is totally personal preference. The translucent colors are really cool and so are the solid colors. It just depends on what you want. But don’t buy it to hoping it performs any different. But I actually like my blue translucent ProtoStar better due to it being smooth all over the yoyo, it’s a little more vibrant, and eye catching! The solid color ProtoStars are more rough on the outer portion of the yoyo.
But All and all not a bad choice. It plays the same, but looks a tad different. But most important it costs the same!

Good and honest review.
One question though, is it feel any faster or slower than the original protostar?
Protostar is my favorite plastic, but currently, I don’t have any, mine was broke after 3 years of service.
Need to get another one.
