# YoYo for a beginner?

What would be the best YoYo for a beginner (me.) I can do all the basic stuff like sleeper walk the dog around the world. etc. My current yo-yo I guess is a little outdated and scractched up. I am looking to spend 50 bucks tops on a YoYo. Any ideas or suggestions?

basically, the best begginer yoyo is a velocity, it can be adjusted to be responsive, and when you get better you can tune it down to unresponsive It also will spin a long time and is very durable.

The kickside is my first string yoyo and its great for just starting out…

Everybody say a Velocity or DM is a good beginner’s yo-yo. I also heard the Lyn Fury is good too. Just get what sounds like the best yo-yo for you, suggestions are great but I say get what your heart or gut tells you.

Well, the mob is going to tell you to go with a Velocity. And it’s good advice. :wink:
The Velo is a phenomenal starter yo. It will take you from the very basics right up to the Expert stuff on just one yo. You can’t go wrong with this one.
On the other hand…
There’s always stuff like the Kickside, Lyn Fury, or Dark Magic. These are all great yos as well, and you might like the body style they all have a little better than the Velocity. Of course, you’re going to have to learn to bind to get them back to your hand once they’ve “broken in” properly, but this is one of the first skills you should be working on right along with a strong sleeper.
It’s your call to make, and you’ll enjoy any of them.
Protip: Some people will steer a beginner away from the Dark Magic. I won’t. I think if you’re dedicated enough to sit down for an afternoon and get a fairly good and straight sleeper, and then get your bind down pat, you’ll have no regrets at all about buying a DM. Plus, you’ll not be looking for an upgrade anytime soon. I say the same thing about the Lyn Fury, though, so take this with a grain of salt. ;D

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, another aspect I forgot to talk about was that this YoYo might have to last me a while. I think I am going to go with the velocity as that is where you guys are steering me, does anyone know any sites selling them

Hmm, I’ve never played a YoYoJam Journey but I guess it is supposed to be a great beginners yoyo. You would probably like the extra response from the dual o-rings and when you get better, you can always mod it with flowable silicone for less response.

What yoyo do you own?
Personally, I didn’t choose a velocity when I was getting my yoyo. I just ordered the DM. The velocity has more vibration according to others, and starbursts are not my favorite response, they tear the string, and come up with a snappy jerk like feel, not smooth like my Panda. I’ve attached a couple reviews I’ve found on the internet.
This is just what I’ve heard, since I do not own one myself, but I have been searching like you have.

It is true that the Dark Magic is good. However, if you don’t know how to bind, that should be your first trick to learn when you get it. For you, I would go with the Velocity.

True the DM and Speeder is a favorite among many yo-yoers. Still alot of pros use YoyoFactory such as g5 or 888. The first timers enjoy having yo-yos such as LF or Legacy as their weapon of choice. The M1 is a choice for the pros that love all metals.
My beginner friend go with the LF, Kickside, or DM. I personally say Velocity because of the adjustable starburst and the fact that it will literally grow with you. (This is just a recommendation, i never thrown a velocity but most of the time my assumptions that are based on describtions from the store usually end up being true)

There are dials on the side. If you look at the photos, you will see something around the core, you can spin that. When you spin it counter clockwise, it will become less responsive, and vice versa. Thats how to response dials work.
