I’ve tried Onshape on my phone a little bit. It was just tough to be as precise as I wanted around the bearing seat. Other than that I liked it. But I like fusion 360 on a computer better. Just way easier for me with a mouse. ---

I made this today. wanted to try and make a yoyo with the specs ive been wanting (54x46) but with 5a in mind. 65 grams, 4.35 gap (because of that gap thread I wantes to try one this size haha). 7075 and a 12mm axle to keep it durable. Has a medium wall but i dig it. I must say, your hub design is excellent. Very distinctive and functional. Short axles are a downside though. But long bearing seats help get those valuable threads back. ---

Yes, indeed. The new run will feature a tweak to the seats though. Because they need to be longer than normal to offer more threads, the bearings are more difficult to remove. Thus the news seats will be composite: conical at the end with a straight part the length of a traditional seat. Best of both worlds. ---

I did this on the Umbra - worked pretty well, though the flat part was still a bit long, about 1.1mm. Thank you for sharing this! That’s an awful lot of control points there - you could probably redraw some of those sections as 1-2 circular arcs and have it come out better. The circle on the hub is a cool idea. The response bump looks really flat, to me. I feel like the string would catch on it just a bit longer than you’d like it to. The IGR could be moved closer to the rim face, which would improve machinability a bit, and help keep some of the rim weight closer to the string plane instead of right at the edge. ---

Thanks for the feedback Mark! On the note of control points – I remember some resources warning against using splines and control points. I was wondering what the rationale is for that? Will definitely look into using circular arcs to replace these though! If it makes these lines cleaner : ) I’ll try touching up on the response bump and IGR and see if I can do something smoother! Thanks again : ) Just curious, based on your experience with designing yoyos – how would you imagine a design like this playing? ---

You can always approximate a similar curve with arcs and lines. I haven’t really played such a wide organic, but this would have a pretty solid amount of power on the throw. OK got it! Toying with it right now. I definitely was looking for some oomph (therefore the flat hub, thinner walls, weighted rims) but wanted to retain some agility and bounce – kind of like how the Akita plays – so I kept the total weight slightly lower at 63.9g. Was also trying for a “hollow body” feel that the Ti Bowl and 420 has. Kind of a middle ground in having some power without it feeling like a dead rock. ---
