Another one I have now. Really not a thought out design, just something I wanted try.
The model is named Fukurou, which means owl in japanese.
 
Trying more decal stuff, namely placement but also thinking of the design and drawing it out.

Even more of my tries in design.
Wanted to design a wider O shape and came up with this.
The OrgaNightmare
Lots of smooth roundness, some rim weight and, although very small, a fingerspin dimple with an adjustment hole. Organic in’n’out.

Ooh I like the look of that organic one! The others with the really strong curve in the catch zone aren’t my cup of tea. In my experience, every time you land a string in the gap slightly off center with a shape like those (the curve that is almost flat going to the bearing)… You get a slight bump, like a clicking feedback as the string drops from the yo-yo body to the bearing. Very minor thing, but it has annoyed me in the past lol.

I honestly don’t know what to aim for in a design… yet. I just do random designs and stop when it seems ok.
I need the machining experience to see what really works, is produceable, material capabilities etc. But for now I’m just doing, well, something that if nothing else looks pleasing enough.

Once you get the hang of it, making designs is ridiculously easy. Although, putting together a good design is difficult, not to mention you have to get people to look at it if you want it to go anywhere.

Hey guys!

So yeah, I’ve been designing some sleeves for the 9D so I’d have more use for the parts
Introducing:
Project One Dragon
What I’m thinking of is open source 3D printable sleeves so anyone that has a 9D can print them and assemble a hybrid yoyo.
It uses the caps, bearing seats and the axle.
Next up is the printing and trying, they’re just ideas for now and if I deem the thing playable, I’ll release the files on thingiverse.
Any shape ideas or anything?

They’re built with yoyofactory 9d parts so they have a dimple.

First proto is done.
 
The tolerances ain’t there (used 2 different printers, although same settings, the pieces aren’t quite there)
It plays fine. It vibes, but I expected that.
Next phase:
-lower layer height
-USE THE SAME Printer DUMDUM
-full infill
I’m surprised how good it is for what it is. I expect it to be better with above mentioned changes.
