My first yo-yo ever was a Duncan Neo back in like, 1991-1992. It was the hot orange one. I’ll never forget standing on the couch as a 3-4 year old and attempting to use it, lol.
After that, was the Duncan Butterfly and Imperial, along with YOMEGA Fireballs in grade school in the late 90’s. Having a yo-yo with “a brain” was also the cool thing.
My first “real” throw getting back into it, was the Magic Purple Line.

My first yoyo was a glorious Yoyofactory - Velocity with the return system that goes from responsive to unresponsive just rotating some buttons in the cups, that yoyo took more dings than my life.
It still work and sometimes when I am in Italy I still throw it for the sake of the old days, it lasted me 6 months until it was impossible to use cause the combos grow up too much and needed something more performing, I really keep it with a lot of love and good memories.
The second one that lasted me a year and maybe longer before buy some very performing monometal was the X-con it still work and still throw it when in Italy, good memories!

First for me in the 90’s was an Imperial and Butterfly, back when tricks were limited and you goal was to get up to the pros with splitting the atom, lol, and you had to have at least 3 knots in the string because we didn’t know any better and replacement string wasn’t even in our thoughts, haha.
My return to the hobby 25 years later was a MYY V8 and first true unresponsive was an OD Sugar Glider, I still love them both to be honest.

Dude I remember going to the comic shop in 5th grade with a buddy, and being amazed that they had color/striped strings, lmao. We had NO CLUE. Throwing was absolutely as primitive as it was when it started minus the slight advancements in “brain” YOMEGA throws, etc. That’s why when I came back to it around 2018 I was like WTF this is incredible now lmao. Ball bearings for the win!

In the 1960’s, I had a couple of Duncans - Imperial and butterfly styles. My favorite was an unknown brand, orange, Light Up yoyo - with a physical centripetal switch and incandescent bulbs.

Mine was a random crappy wooden yoyo that broke soon after it was purchased :joy:
Then I got a Duncan imperial at a thrift store from a free basket.
I watched a video on how to tie the string to your finger and it also included a couple basic tricks.
That got me hooked and I got a magic yoyo and learned almost all my tricks on that.
