I got to meet Yoyobrothers at NER yesterday. We met over email before, and I bought a yo-yo from him a few months ago. I bought his YoyoExpert Edition Albatross. So, when I found out he was coming to NER, I was shocked, because he’s from G.A. and I didn’t think I’d meet him that soon, or possibly, not ever.
He’s a great guy to talk to, especially about collecting. We had some conversations about manufacturers and how certain ones are better for “collectors” than others, depending on what you collect. Without saying any names, it was clear that we both preferred collecting yo-yos of certain companies based on our preferences.
As stated before, I usually don’t collect based on rarity, so I collect what I like or think looks good. On the other hand, he does the same as me, I’m sure, but definitely appreciates the rarity of certain items a lot more than I do. He was really cool and gave me a few of his YoyoBrothers edition Duncan yo-yos that just came out.

He wanted something like $75-100k for it many years ago as well and I actually considered it… but that was when collector prices were very high… these days I’d have to say that’s a bit optimistic.
I don’t doubt actually that you could sell off enough to pay for it, but it would take -forever- to do… there just aren’t enough collectors for it, and there is so much of that they already have.
So unless somebody out there actually wants that many yo-yos for themselves, not going to be worth it with the time involved.
That said, he has some truly amazing stuff, and I’d LOVE to have lots of it.

I guess it doesn’t hurt to use this thread as my own personal little journal of collection conquests. 😃 I was offering a $25 gift certificate reward for a mint Monster and a mint Avalanche of a particular color. The reward would be paid if the lead ended in a transaction, and I received the yo-yo as described (mint).
A great forum member PMed me about the Monster he found in a store overseas. The site wasn’t even in English, so I had to use Google translate to translate the language (Slovak?) into English. There was only one in stock. After using the translator, I was able to contact the business, and ask if they would accept my payment and ship to me in the U.S.A. It was a go, and we arranged the transaction. I kept my fingers crossed, hoping for the best. I trusted the business for the most part, but customs has a habit of opening shipping boxes to inspect things, rending the item broken or not re-closing the box in a secure manner. I had worries about getting the item as it was described. It took almost 2 weeks, but I received the item, the last one in stock, as described.
The Avalanche was pretty close. It was found in a lot less obscure place, in a BST listing, and very near mint, but it still looks great and completed my blizzard family. Not a bad idea to give some incentive for a few extra eyes to look out for you. That worked out well for me. I may continue to use this tactic for hard to find items in the future.
Sometimes timing is the only thing standing in the way of finding something…or not. A small reward incentive to locate things that are very hard to find, is not a bad idea.

^ I consider you one too haha. I remember seeing one of your collection videos on Youtube. It was one of the best I’d ever seen. I watched it all the way through too. I’d better subscribe, for when the update comes. How many throws do you think you have total?

🙂 26 CLYWs, 31 General-yos , including a gray YYE edition torrent2 :wink: 3 more gen-yos on the way, somewhere around 20-30 assorted 1As, and around a dozen loopers. Next collection youtubes are gonna have to be split up, one clyw , one gen-yo. or it will go on for an hour.

That sounds killer! I can’t wait until you do another one. That’s a nice collection. We were discussing narrowing down collections to specialize in your “most favorite” things. CLYWs and General Yos are a nice way to do it. So you’re looking to sell that YYE Edition General Yo? :wink: ;D Can’t blame me for trying.
I started my collection with a bit of confusion, but eventually found my niche. A few of the things I was recently in search of, I passed on some time ago. I had a few blue blizzards, but I wasn’t so sure I wanted to collect them all, so I decided to pass on the Avalanche. I already had a YYE Edition Avalanche, so I was content. Then, as I got more and more blizzards, I regretted passing on the Avalanche.
Same with the Monster. I wanted to collect only official YYE Editions, not all colorways that look like them. So, I passed on the Monster, because it’s the same color, but not official. I eventually changed my mind to have all throws that color. So, by the time I went to look for the Monster…sold out. So, I had to search for it. The good thing is that most things are always sort of available, even if you have to pay more or search awhile.
But, back to the video…I never forgot it. I wish there were more collection videos that clear and thorough.

Well, after considering my definition of what a collector is, I have been following suit and spending some time recently organizing my things better. Those of you who collect, probably have some system of organizing your throws. For now, I’m using this system, and this is my thought process generally:
Step 1
If it’s a YoyoExpert Edition or colorway…it goes in a YYE case.
Step 2
If it’s not a YoyoExpert Editon , but it’s a Micro yo-yo, it goes in the Micro case.
Step 3
If it’s not a YoyoExpert Edition, or a Micro, but it’s a Delrin, it goes in the Delrin case.
Step 4
If it’s not a YoyoExpert Edition, not a Micro, not a Delrin, but it’s a YoyoFactory, it goes in the YYF case.
Step 5
If it’s not a YoyoExpert Edition, not a Delrin, but a One Drop, it goes in the One Drop case.
Step 6
If it’s not a YoyoExpert Edition, not a Delrin, but a Yoyojam, it goes in the Yoyojam case.
Step 7
If it’s not a YoyoExpert Edition, it’s not a micro, not a Delrin, but it’s a CLYW, SPYY or General Yo, it goes in the CLYW x General Yo x Spyy case.
Step 8
If it’s not a YoyoExpert Edition, it’s not a micro, not a Delrin, and it’s also not a YYF, OD, CLYW, General Yo, or Spyy, it goes in a miscellaneous case.
Step 9
If it’s not a YoyoExpert color throw and it’s a plastic, unless it’s a certain YYF, it goes in a plastics case. Soon, I’ll be moving all YYF plastics out of the YYF case and into their own YYF plastics case.
Now, all that takes literally five seconds in my thought process to put a yo-yo in the proper place. Written out, it seems complicated though, doesn’t it? Some thought went into my little system, and because it’s my system, it only takes me a few seconds to put away or locate my things. :D The brain is incredible haha.
