As a Boeing user, I hope I never have the opportunity to test their gliding prowess. But, I have full confidence in their design and ability to function even in such a degraded state.
@beherenow (great user name!) As a rule of thumb, modern passenger jets can glide 3 miles for every 1000 feet of altitude. Considering normal cruise altitude is between 350 and 410, that’s a decent distance to find a runway (though dual engine flameout at cruise is both incredibly rare and likely inexplicable aside from pilot error).

I love riding in helicopters. In the late 1970’s I worked for a coal company that had a really nice helicopter with a big turbine engine. The first picket they hired was a nut. The director he was transporting one day pissed him off so he showed the director how you could loose power and still land. The director crapped his pants and the pilot was fired. I didn’t like that director either and thought it was funny.
