# Wooden axle too unresponsive?

So I have a Duncan Proyo that is very unresponsive for some reason, and not due to wear because I rarely play it because of that. I have tried different strings but none really works. The only thing that works is if I wet the axle with water a little, then it will play great until it dries and then become unresponsive again.  
Well it will somewhat works if I really tighten the string tension, but at that point I can’t really do kickflips or suicides so that’s not really a solution.  
I have other fixed axles that works just fine.  
Is there anything I can do besides making a new wooden axle?

A bit of Burt’s Bees lip balm on the string where it meets the axle, works every time :wink:

Thank you for this info. I will have to dig my old Duncan “Jeweled” out of closet and give it a try. The axle on that one became so slick that it wouldn’t return.
