The yoyo industry is driven by yoyo play, and yoyo play has gotten harder and more complicated. So the equipment has improved to meet that level of play, and as companies we’re constantly trying to sell more product and doing this means embracing “new and improved” as a primary motivator for most yoyo buyers. I can go on for **days** about why I think this is a bad thing, but it’s pretty accurate and so as companies we get easily caught up in this idea that we have to constantly push everything forward. So it was a pretty natural and obvious thought that “people love and miss the Peak, let’s fix the obvious problems with it and release a new one” and for the most part **the most part** people really enjoyed that. We sold a ton of them, and it’s a good yoyo. But it doesn’t have that sort of naïve crappiness that gives the Peak what some of you refer to as “soul”, so instead of having these sort of junky attributes that force you to work around them, it just plays as it should and you don’t have to think too hard about it or adjust to it in anyway. There’s no friction to be had there, and because of that there’s nothing particularly memorable about the way it plays. And what people loved the most about the Peak is that it was memorable. I’m not sure I would say we bungled that, because the Peak 2 is still a very good yoyo and I like the way it plays and a lot of other people did too. But we definitely misunderstood the appeal and where it was coming from. So, we’ll fix that next year with the P3ak. ---

i think steve said the opposite, actually – that the peak 2 was unmemorable and that the original peak was memorable because it had its flaws ---

If Steve fell off a 127 story building and landed directly on his head and broke every bone in his body and was in a coma for 11 years and had 99% amnesia when he finally woke up, he would still know more about yo-yo‘s Then you’ll ever learn, If you live to be 920 years old. Obviously, we all have opinions, and as I mentioned to you before which I still don’t think you understand, I totally agree that you’re completely welcome to have your own opinions no matter how misaligned they might be. But that being said when we all say things about yo-yo’s for the most part, we are giving just our opinions. When uncle Steve speaks about specific yo-yos of which he has comprehensive experience and knowledge of, I would consider that less of an opinion and more Along the lines Of factual insight. Steve Brown is a mastermind with a depth of knowledge of yo-yo’s at an elevated level that you will never reach. What he said about the peak, regardless of who he was or wasn’t working for and what he said about the peak two or not just opinions, but irrefutable facts based on comprehensive extensive and intensive research and field test testing. The fact that he chimed into this thread is just a simple matter of him, wanting to curtail the lunacy and the ignorance that is usually associated when comparing these two yo-yos with one another. Having changed his position in the yo-yo puzzle has pretty much moved him out of the bright lights. But that being said, Steve stands and nobody’s shadow, and when he talks about yo-yos, instead of considering how to be polite, but still disagree with his perspective is not a good look The better position to take is to listen when Steve speaks and understand that what he said is something that you need to be able to grasp and accept. Me and Steve go way back way way back and I know people and I’ll tell you one thing, Steve is no poser. He’s a player. He’s an innovator. He’s an educator. And if I said 30 more positive things about Steve, I’d still be forgetting something. CLYW Has got some serious projects planned for the next couple years and Steve’s right in the middle of it with both feet. No doubt ---

I think the point is that the Peak was a product of the knowledge/experience/manufacturing capabilities of its time. All of these advanced leading up to Peak 2, which made the necessarily previous versions “naïve crappiness”, to put it in a tongue-in-cheek way. It turned out that original Peak fans missed the idiosyncrasies that resulted from the state-of-the-art at its time more than they welcomed improvements that were intended to make Peak 2 compatible with expectations of _its_ time. ---
