What an incredible journey. Thank you for sharing.

I remember as a teenager in the 80s, we always joked that BMX would be an Olympic sport someday. Well, it happened. I couldn’t believe it.

With time, growth in popularity, and the popularity it already has worldwide, I wouldn’t count the idea out yet. You never know. They had Breakdancing…

I think it would be more entertaining than a lot of events that they currently hold. But I’m biased. Even if it were to be included, I doubt it would totally change yo yo culture all at once. The Olympics are only every 4 years. I’d imagine we’d still have the same brands and stars, but they’d have to come up with separate routines to fit the Olympic scoring system. Breakdancing was included. And I guess it’s more mainstream than it was in the 80s and 90s. But I haven’t seen any breakdancing gyms/dojos popping up…

I loved reading about how yoyoing had such a positive impact on your wellbeing. Thats wondeful. Congrats on that, really.

I think people find that sort of inspiration in all sorts of different places, and its an amazing thing every time.

I can tell you are passionate about getting yoyo into thr olympics, but i dont quite understand why that specific goal resonated so much with you. It would be awesome to see that happen, in my opinion, although i dont resent that not being the case.

Im very new to this whole scene, amd loving it so far. But it seems to me there are quite a few avenues for competition if thats something anyone wants to pursue. So id love to understand more about what exactly you feel olympic yoyoing would acheive.

I get that it might bring more legitimacy or recognition as a “sport”, but im just unsure what changes that would bring.

You mentioned dealing with some severe bullying over your throwing, and i hate that you dealt with that. It shouldnt happen to you or anyone else. But i hesitate to think that olympic competition would prevent similar things from happening to others

Unfortunately that sort of thing, in my mind, is less about yoyos, or having any other “niche/dofferent” tastes, and more about misguided young people directing their anxiety/aggression/anger at others in an awful way. Im inclined to think olympic yoyo events would have little effect on that unfortunately.

This is already too long, but im interested in what you and others think. Thank you for sharing your experience, and your thoughts, though. I honestly appreciated your insight, and id be happy if your goal became a reality.

Cheers!

This information was copied and pasted from the Internet. I’m not saying it came out of the Bible. And I’m not saying it’s 100% factual reality based no argument information. But what I will say is it seems to be pretty well thought out of what people domestically and encompassing the planet feel about yo-yo‘s in the Olympics. Sorry I don’t have a better explanation. But it seems like what yo-yo‘s want and what the Olympic Committee sees as relevant on a global basis or two diametrically opposite things.

\>Throwing yo-yos will likely never be an Olympic sport because it struggles to meet the International Olympic Committee’s strict criteria for global reach, widespread governance, and traditional athletic definition. [[1](https://forums.yoyoexpert.com/t/yoyo-and-the-olympics/371524)]

**Global Governance and Participation**

- **Lack of infrastructure:** The International Olympic Committee requires an official, universally recognized International Sports Federation that enforces anti-doping codes and structured worldwide competitions. While groups like the International Yo-Yo Federation exist, they do not possess the widespread institutional recognition of bodies like FIFA or World Athletics. [[1](https://www.olympics.com/ioc/faq/sports-programme-and-results/what-are-the-conditions-required-for-a-sport-to-be-recognised-by-the-ioc), [2](https://www.britannica.com/story/how-are-sports-chosen-for-the-olympics)]
- **Limited country reach:** To join the Games, a sport must have active, organized national federations across a vast number of countries and continents. Yo-yo communities are passionate and global, but they remain relatively niche compared to mainstream Olympic staples. [[1](https://www.olympics.com/ioc/news/ioc-executive-board-approves-qualification-system-principles-for-la28-and-participation-principles-for-dakar-2026), [2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoGyWbW6C4A&t=19), [3](https://forums.yoyoexpert.com/t/yoyo-and-the-olympics/371524)]

**Perception and Athletic Definition**

- **The “toy” stigma:** The general public overwhelmingly views yo-yoing as a toy or a skillful dexterity hobby rather than a high-performance athletic discipline. [[1](https://forums.yoyoexpert.com/t/yoyo-and-the-olympics/371524)]
- **Physical exertion debates:** Critics argue that competitive yo-yoing lacks the heavy cardiovascular and gross-motor physical exertion typically required of Olympic events, placing it closer to competitive stacking or magic. [[1](https://www.reddit.com/r/Throwers/comments/ar1kpn/competitive_yoyo_is_not_a_sport_it_is_a_judged/)]\<

Just to note… I simply went into a search engine and asked why will yo-yo’s not be part of the Olympics blah blah blah? And that’s what I got.

….PS\>\>\> I feel the need to suggest a more personal note which actually leans towards why yo-yo’s can competitive yo-yo should get some world wide Recognition is something that so straightforward and right in your face when you think about it. And what I’m talking about I’m gonna share with you right now.

In the text that I copied and pasted above my PS, there is the one section where it says yo-yo are a dexterity hobby rather than a high-performance athletic discipline.?

A winter Olympic event called Curling is the one I will refer to. No doubt it isn’t easy. But that being recognized and understood I don’t see any huge amount of anything that they do to slide a block over the ice and sweep in front of it with brooms to see how far it will go? And also the explanation states that the Olympic committee does not see certain things as worldwide interesting events so so to speak. Well, I personally feel that at least half of the planet honestly has any interest in watching people skate around sweeping the ice in front of a big block of whatever as it slides towards the finish line, lol

So it seems the international Olympic committee, talks a good game, but they don’t even really follow their own guidelines as to what should be considered relevant in eligible as an Olympic event.

So, because someone used a search engine to pose a question… and because Google’s ~~public~~ private AI gave an answer… it should be banned? What?

The resources are used regardless. It’s Google’s resources. They applied the resources to answer the question. The user did not inherently request the resources. Take it up with Google if it’s an issue.

I hear the public uses such a small percentage of AI resources anyhow. Most of it goes into bettering itself… These things couldn’t even do math properly 4 years ago. It just keeps learning and expanding faster and faster.

Recursive self improvement.

It really doesn’t matter what is using the resources. The fact is, nobody will stop applying resources toward AI. It’ll only grow. We’re in a security dilemma and a winner-take-all race (with the caveat that it might destroy us in the process). Fun times.

mo didnt pose a question. they asked the ai search engine to confirm what they already believed as evident by the “question” being why won’t it be a part of the Olympics as if it’s a foregone conclusion. “the resources are getting used anyway” “it doesnt use that much” “everyone’s doin it so it’s not going anywhere”. all entirely fallacious assumptions and self fulfilling prophecies. but hey tell me more about how we should just resign ourselves to unchecked greed so we can get search engines to tell us what we want to hear…🤡

Just add a physical component to it, like how biathlon paired cross-country skiing with target shooting. Pure shooting isn’t exactly high cardiovascular exertion either!

Imagine a 1-minute dance or cardio routine followed by 1 minute of yoyoing, repeated a couple of times…

I don’t know, just a wild idea…

(((Warning, the following response is composed of a very very large number of words my suggestion regarding this response is that if you have any type of reading disorder or attention deficit syndrome or maybe you’re just wound up like a guitar string or maybe you’re just one of those TLDR people? Do you know the ones that don’t have two cents to add to the program but will jump into a threat and say…too long .didnt read. I have no problem with that. If the response is too long for you to read, you probably already know everything and need no further enlightenment. You don’t already know because you’re just that intelligent.

So I would suggest that if you find long posts challenging for whatever reason, do not continue beyond the end of this sentence because I can’t give back the life you spent reading it. Good luck in your decision.)))

….But there is definitely a serious difference between being stupid and being ignorant.

Now one of the things that complicates the situation is when a person is not only ignorant, prove that simply by the assumptions they draw and accusative nature displayed in your reply… But when combined with your willingness to select what information you wanna work with and dismiss other information because it doesn’t suit your narrative… That combination creates a serious problem… For you.

First of all, neither one of us is a mind reader. That certainly is not a problem for either one of us.

Now I will get out my little saw and start cutting down the tree of ignorance you tried to grow in my name

First of all… Try to make it a point to never counterpoint someone by selecting just specific things from a reply instead of first trying to comprehend the entire reply. You still may not like the wording. But it gives you a better idea on what the poster like me, for example, was suggesting.

I very clearly said I used a search engine to type in some info and see what came up?

I very clearly stated that response was AI generated and I was copying and pasting it from the search engine results.

I never said. I never suggested. I never insinuated. I never told anybody to read the information and get out a permanent marker and write down notes in the blank pages at the back of the Bible.

I never said I agreed with anything in the search engine results that I pasted in my reply.

I think I should also note that during any 24 hour period on the planet Earth. There are approximately 4 billion Internet searches logged by the connected global population. No doubt a very, very, very, very large number of astonishingly, silly people that request information and most likely believe every single word of it, lol. There is an old saying and I’m not really sure I have this right? But it goes something like this. Believe no more than 25% of what you hear. Believe no more than 50% of what you read. Believe no more than 75% of what you see. Something like that I’m sure most people get the idea.

When you go into a search engine and type in whatever… And then hit enter… And then see the short list or long list of results you get, some of it will be databased from actual humans, and some of it will be taken from databases by artificial intelligence. The AI engines don’t think up the results. They pull the results based within the parameters of the interrogatives. They search billions of entries worldwide and come up with something that they think may address the question related directly to the search.

You stated that it was astonishingly silly to use AI resources to gather information. Very interesting to say the least that you would assume that because I used the search engine I was counting on getting functionally relative answers that were so truth based that they would deflect any suggested contradiction in their veracity.

When I mentioned about a person being selective of what they want to deal with information wise… This is specifically what I meant by that

The pasted information in the top half of my post was exactly what I said it was. What I got when I use the search engine. I never said I agreed even one percent with the information that I paste it. It was simply a view generated by somebody and or something else. And I posted it just to give some people a little more insight, in what may or may not be true in the realm of possibilities or the realm of probabilities.

Search engine results with the AI generated or generated by actual human beings, are not being said by me. They are not being necessarily approved by me. And I never gave that piece of information a nod of positivity and said there you go everybody that’s the answer.

But all of that is only a little of what bothers me about the way you responded to my reply.

What really gets me as if you want toast me like a marshmallow over the fire, you should pay attention to everything in my reply and then you would have a better baseline for you to decide which direction to move when you want to spank me. But you didn’t do that. And I’ll tell you why that’s silly, astonishingly silly as you would say.

After the pasted part, I put in a PS. Not only did I put in the PS but I specifically suggested why I decided to do a post script. What did I say genius? I said basically the following is my opinion. Which is not AI generated. Which was not copied and pasted as a result of a search engine. It was my opinion to give people that may be visiting the thread, a better and more relevant view from a reality based perspective. My information was diametrically opposite from the posted and pasted information generated in outer space or wherever lol

I used the Olympic curling as a simple example of how the international Olympic committee is really not that bright when it comes to deciding what has enough worldwide appeal to be an Olympic event.

I stated very directly that my personal view should be a reason why the international Olympic committee should lean towards paying more attention to making yo-yo an Olympic event.

But you, either deliberately unintentionally or unwittingly disregarded the second part of my reply, which, in fact would allow you to more accurately draw the conclusion that I feel yo-yoing should get more recognition.

Now I understand there’s gonna be a few people that don’t like this reply. They’re gonna say why are you picking on Thomas? Or Hey Mo, you’re just an old guy and you think you’re smart or something blah blah blah. Why do you come into this thread to start trouble? Etc. etc..

People should read first… Think second… Try to accurately evaluate the information they thought they comprehended… and then answer with their personal counterpoint/view, without assuming what they thought the person meant were specifically stating that they knew what the person meant when they said.

I honestly don’t have the slightest idea what made you think? It was a bright idea to twist around what I said to make it look like I was deliberately drawing conclusions and at the very least misleading people into thinking that AI information is somehow directly connected somewhere between the 10 Commandments in the Bible.

Maybe the brightest idea you could’ve had would’ve been to private messaged me and asked me what the heck I was thinking about?

But then again, if you would’ve just not given yourself a wedgy after reading my AI pasted information and just moved on to the second part of my reply where I give my personal opinion in favor of yo-yo‘s/Olympics… You certainly would’ve saved me some writing, lol

PS… I think my favorite part of your reply was when you said that I used a search engine to confirm what I already believed.

First of all pasting, some information has no potential relative connection of any reasonable percentage of accuracy in assuming to know what I believe.

And secondly, if you weren’t so quick on the draw, and you would’ve read my personal opinion in the second half of my reply, I haven’t the slightest idea how you could’ve come up with the wording in your response?

I wonder what is would say of the prompt was the other way, “why should YoYo be an Olympic sport” “could YoYo become an Olympic sport?”

Honestly I think the first half about it not being widely spread enough is actually a really valid point, same about it more as as a skill hobby… same could be said for Kendama, flow stars, etc…

But again, I know more throwers, bowlers, pickle ballers than curlers lol

I think it would be cool to see but very very unlikely
