I’m not a member of the skateboarding community, but just from going to a public school and hearing the kids discuss skateboards, I can say that’s not actually true most of the time. I hear people talking of collecting skateboards all the time. In fact the argument that skateboards are functional art is much stronger than yoyos being art in my opinion. I mean dude, skateboards literally have prints of art on the bottom. ---

Id like to point out i joined the forum 3 years ago to partake in Trick-a-Week… this is the third year we are doing it and we encourage everyone to learn tricks. All levels, i usually don’t learn the more complex tricks but i always pick up some new element that i can add to my repertoire… not everyone posts videos but it is a thread on the forum dedicated to learning tricks. There are numerous threads where people post links to thier tutorials for a wide range of skills and discuss TRICKS. There are people on this site that don’t use FB or IG and i post tricks here because i know that. Everyone here will get what they want from the forum but let’s not say there is a shortage of tricks becauseyou get more likes on your IG post or your mail thread. ---

Not really. I use to post a bunch of skateboarding videos… When I was big into skateboarding I would post a pic of a new setup every once in awhile. Ever since I got hurt on a big rail I haven’t really skated. I turned my attention to yoyoing as I can’t afford the injuries anymore because of my job ---

Maybe it’s just me, but I really enjoy the mail day thread because getting a new yoyo in the mail is sometimes the high point of my week. There’s a whole process, from waiting for the drop time, deciding what colorway(s) to get, placing the order, and looking forward to that special delivery in a few days. When I finally get the yoyo, there’s the unboxing, string adjustment, and first few throws to get a feel for the yoyo. Depending on what comes in, it can be a blast and one of the biggest dopamine hits that I’ll get all week. And even if I didn’t get a yoyo in the mail, I like living vicariously through others by checking the mail day thread - looking at the artistic pictures, getting feedback on throws that I want to get or sometimes already have but want to get someone else’s opinions on. Watching tricks? I do a lot of that, but mostly on Instagram and TikTok. Every platform is different, and Instagram is the place that I usually go to when I want to watch yoyo trick videos. I follow a number of players, and I’ll often record clips or portions of tricks so that I can look at them later and try to do the same trick by following the slo-mo. In my case, I’m not very advanced so while I might appreciate some of the tricks that are posted on the forum and other sites, I’m much more interested in either components (like mounts, binds, or transitions) or easier routines that are comprised of stuff that I already know how to do. So videos on the forum, where people are doing outrageous horizontal stuff, aren’t very relatable to me. Who knows, maybe they will be someday in the future, but I think that there’s a much greater appeal to me to see and hear about someone getting a new throw in the mail. ---

Yeah I’d actually just like to say that the Trick-a-Week thread here is awesome. It’s been a minute since I last really participated in it, but that thread was a big part of what made me want to start really learning 1A. It even got me to pick up 4A which I never would’ve tried otherwise. The forums aren’t super conducive to watching tricks, but they’re really great for discussions and group stuff. There’s the monthly trick remix contest which always gets a good amount of entries, and even the tutorial threads get a lot of attention. Even random other contests pick up a good amount of traction, look at how many people entered into the Fixed Axle February contest Ed Haponik held. It’s just the dedicated trick posting thread that seems to get ignored. ---
