Hey
So I just got my n12 and already dropped it a couple of times
So there’s some tiny amount of paint is gone
But that had me thinking when do I know it’s time for a new one
And by saying a new one I don’t mean when this one gets destroyed I meant
Aside from this one (starting a collection) cause I’m looking to get a replay pro next

if you have money (or means to get money) and a desire to get any yoyo that catches your eye, than you are ready! Let it roll, get something different shaped than what you have each time.
When you find something you really love, buy a second for emergency back up and shelve it. Collections grow naturally, some faster than others. That part doesnt matter. Its an addictive thing. I see no harm in letting the addiction sink its teeth in for a moment. Let those sparkels in your eyes shine and get that new throw!

doesnt matter when you get another. make use of what you have. use that n12 to the fullest. get one when you think youre ready for one.

After a metal, getting the Replay Pro will feel like a downgrade. In my opinion after using both of them alot.

Depends on your budget or if you really want different multiple throws, see me SOMETIMES I’ll save up for something I really want, but if I can afford two or three in the say $20-$40 range I usually go that route. I dunno I’m just always so stoked to try new throws and I used to worry well what if I forget about the others if one stands out but I find I rotate so frequently that doesn’t happen, hey some days I’ll bounce around multiple yo-yos in the same hour.
So to throw out some more budget friendly recommendations if you’re sticking to metal I say the magicyoyo node is great for the price, solid and fun for me (thanks codinghorror) and I also really enjoy TopYo’s colossus IV and the TopYo Meta I really like so far, those are the only ones I have experience with at the moment, cheers!

So here’s the thing about yoyos: It’s always time for a new one! You buy one today and ….it’s time for a new one! You play the same one for a week, it’s time for a new one. The weather changes, new one! You feel badly, new one! You feel great and celebrate, new one! You understand what I’m sayin? Good, congratulations, new one! The goal is to have enough yoyos that you can go an entire year without changing strings, you just change yoyos! Can’t do that with the yoyos you have? Guess what! Yep, new one! Now that’s some advice to put into practice! New one! 😘

I think he is on a tight budget and this will be his second yoyo. He has an N12 which is a nice start. Now he is looking for a second one. Affordable for a really tight budget and something metal to compliment the N12. He is also overseas.

I would not necessarily write off plastics or hybrids altogether either. True, they typically are not as smooth as metals and the need for more material in the center for durability will change weight distribution a bit, but there are some great throws right here on this site that are not much more expensive than a new bearing.
From YoyoJam, the surge (a wide profile organic shape made of a slick plastic called celcon that comes with a higher quality bearing than most low budget yoyos. It was an attempt to make a plastic yoyo that had the performance abilities of a metal), the Big Ben (a fun oversized throw with an adjustable gap that I’ve found can handle most 1A tricks even though it’s kind of old school; plus the o-ring response pads last forever so you won’t have to worry about eventually replacing it for a long time if ever), and the Trigger, (a lower budget hybrid with a brass weight ring. Of the yoyos I mention, it’s probably the best value just because of how much it’s marked down here on YYE. It has some slightly sharp edges when first working with it, but working with it for a while smooths that out a bit).
You could try the Yoyorecreation Diffusion. The red version is on sale. It seems to have a very long spin time and a good centering bearing. The axle threading was a little rough at first on the one I got, but taking the yoyo apart and putting it back together again a few times fixed it. From YoyoFactory, you could try the Grind Machine (which has hubstacks and is an older model that was a must-have a few years ago), or you could try a Daydream (another oversized throw that is a bit more modernized than the Big Ben I mentioned earlier, but some people think it’s a bad yoyo. I was happy with mine, but my opinion doesn’t really count for much, haha!). These are some possibilities I have tried and liked if you’re looking at the very low price end. They are all currently $10 American or less at YYE.

There are some good plastics… I mean the Replay Pro is a good yo-yo, even if it’s not everybody’s cup of tea.

As you can, see it’s hard to get a consensus! You could probably draw from all the suggestions including the Replay Pro out of a hat, and you’d enjoy whatever you picked. I will say that plastics are fun, even if they don’t perform as well as metal yo-yos.

When you start, getting every new thing that catches your eye won’t be good. Make sure to use every yoyo to the fullest (ie. use them till they are all dinged up) until you develop your own personal taste in yoyos over a few years. A replay pro is a very good option because it’s very affordable and gets you the same performance of most metal yoyos (not to mention it is very durable for a plastic yoyo).

Don’t be ashamed to buy a plastic yoyo. Not as sexy as $$$ metals, but price/performance ratio is way over the top. I would venture to say that at the level most people throw (no offense intended) the perceived improvement with $$$ yoyos is more imagined than real.
