I get that titanium is expensive, but why does the Mustang in particular seem to be so highly sought after and prized?

It’s just the coolness factor of owning a titanium throw. You can pretty much get the same performance from a st Elmo with way less cost. While titanium is more durable l haven’t seen many people damage it enough to make that a fair point.

The fact that Takeshi used it to finish his entire semifinal performance (around 1 min and 30 seconds) in one throw

The Mustang is one of the best balanced Ti throws out there. Yes it was used for winning routines; but it is an amazing Turning Point take on the Ti throw. Heavy, long spinning quick, but still having that float that makes for a superior Ti throw. It ticks all the boxes.
