honestly i’d take an option for no bearing and they just ship me two halves and an axle or pair of side effects lol ---

A possible issue with a no bearing option is that the yo-yo received can not really be evaluated for QC. With 10Balls, OD can ship yo-yos that work the way they were designed to work, from both a performance and bearing/post interface standpoint, with minimum cost and QC hassle. 10Balls are low cost and good enough as a standard option, IMO. ---

I have never had issues with a onedrop machined yoyo having vibe or bearing seat damage when i switch the bearing out, there’s a reason they’re the gold standard of machining quality in the yoyo scene but yeah I guess that’s true, I think obviously they should have a single testing bearing and painstakingly swap it between yoyos.. /s ---

I leave the flats in and get mildly annoyed when I buy one used that’s listed as NMTBS or better and it doesn’t come with the flat (and usually swap one back in). They may not have the performance edge of a centering bearing (hard for me to tell; my skill is more of the limiting factor there), but I’ve never found the quality of the OD bearing to be lacking. ---

They even offered that in the earlier thread as a reason for just sticking with 10Ball: they aim for max compatibility with whatever else a buyer might prefer. But I think that providing a known-good option is the best route. ---

100% agree. I started typing a message about the line we walk with patents too, but got busy. Like you said, patents are there to incentivise inventing and imporoving ,not to stifle it. Especially something so small as the shape of something that we all know is free to use anyway. How many degrees of conavity can you go until it breaks the rules? I do not like 10balls in my throws, except deep state. Even then I modded it to play with regular half spec with shims instead. ---

I’m honestly good with that option too but something about getting a yoyo ready to play gets people excited. It’s presentation, marketing, branding all that jazz. Personally I don’t care about all that but some folks do. ---

The lowest retail price for 10Balls is $6.40 (for 10). I suspect that the price break on a “no bearing” option would be so minimal it wouldn’t really please anyone. ---

Your not paying for a single part your paying for a prorated part of the project that is the deepest state run as an example. so they can make a profit. . So yes your request for more options more skews more stuff should result in overall higher cost of goods from the seller… Like if I sell a 3d print I’m charging for my time, and materials. Doesn’t matter if I offer options on what you can get in your order all materials are counted toward the cost of the project and calculated into the overall msrp of the item. So yes more better bearing as option = more cost if thing.. ---

Yeah no I don’t care about lower cost as much as I just don’t need more bearings lol I imagine they buy those in bulk probably at 5-15 cents a bearing but in quantities of thousands of them at once ---

It all depends. If it’s bad wolf string or something special tiny batch hard to get like g2 diamond then I covet the access to it. If it’s bulk string it goes in the club box to giveaway lol ---

Yeah that’s fair I don’t have David’s calculations on costs or how OD breaks down budget. You may be right but it would still add more cost in operational complexity (making sure every order gets the right bearing) and another skew that does add a tangible cost. I assume project basis as some like the clyw stuff has like profit sharing aspects as it’s a collab so I have to imagine there’s some split from yoyo to yoyo to keep sanity but I have no insight into how they untangle that mess. My examples have all been pretty straight forward for myself as I don’t even sell stuff I give stuff away and track losses for my club more so I can ensure anything I do accidentally make profit on can be easily offset on taxes. Which is only because my taxes are already a nightmare and anything that keeps me from paying more makes me happy… ---
