# what string - cotton or polyester?

I’m a newbie to yoyoing and I get mixed signals when trying to find what type of strings to buy. For example, in the shop section of this site, it says cotton is for beginners, but then in the videos recommend polyester because it is smoother and won’t break.

So which should I choose?

For 1A (single yo-yo, string tricks), polyester is pretty much the standard these days. Starting out, the string you use won’t make much of a difference, but poly should last a bit longer and you have more options. ya. use poly. I also would try nylon, thats what i use 😛

I use predominately Nolyon these days.

cotton is meant to be more responsive than polyester but i dont feel a difference in responsiveness polyester is smoother and lasts longer so i would choose poly.
