It just depends on how detailed you want to be with describing a shape. All of these yoyos in this thread are organic-shaped, but some are modified organics if they have an extra response bump or flat edges. You’re not wrong to call it either way.
There’s a history leading up the term modified organics in the mid-2000s, but long story short- it’s been around for a while.

Do you have any resources for reading more about that history?
It seems like most current yoyos could be considered to be on a spectrum of some sort of modification from the fundamental shape. Using the term modified almost seems superfluous at this point.

Unfortunately all discussions on the evolution, design, and community input over naming conventions have been lost to the wind when TheYo, Yoyonation, and Infinite Illusions forums eventually all shuttered. Referencing back to those discussions would be based mostly on recollections from those of us that have been around in those discussions.
While true that most modern yoyo designs are an evolution or modification on a basic shape, the addition of design elements and modifications would change the identification for those that are particular about the naming.

A-rt are king of organics in my eyes.
Full sized- the grail is the perfect floaty organic. It’s all been said before.
Undersized- the jr is the best undersized throw I have ever used. So much more spin than I expected.
Oversized although not a true organic the 420 belongs in the group and is a blast.
A sized- the quail has to win this category.
I also love the triptych. Probably my favorite organic. Tough to say. Lots of other companies have made incredible organics but a-rt always kills it.

420 is the green one. The silver/gold swap is the grail.

i will agree up and down the wall @TurdFerguson69 (save the 420, i have not, nor will i try). accessibility is a limiting factor on most all of these… not anyone can find a junior. you and i can both attest to this :wink:

Not an oversized throw guy? Or no drug references? It is unfortunate how hard many of these are to get. The sparrow is supposed to play just the same as the jr however I can’t confirm that.

nah, just the oversized… per ‘specs’ the grail would be out of my comfort zone… but so would the direwolf, which i really liked. however, the grail gets play time, the dw did not because i just would not tend to grab it, and i don’t like those shapes… the 420 is obviously too big, and i know i just wouldn’t tend to grab it and not spec-wise… it’s just glaringly big

Have you tried the Diptych? I would put it marginally just behind the Grail in my preferences.
