What exactly is the point you’re trying to make?
I said earlier that there weren’t many from 2014 that are still being actively produced and sold. Pointing out one yoyo from 2013 that is still in production just seems to be furthering the point that I was making to begin with, that there aren’t that many.

Just stating that the MMC isn’t special in that regard, and that there are more than a couple if you look hard enough. I just stated the shutter because it popped into my head the second i read your post.

I think it is pretty special in that regard. I would imagine the ratio of yoyos _consistently_ produced and sold since 2014 (or before) to yoyos no longer produced would be significantly low. Sure you could dig and find a few, but I still believe the MC is a remarkable yoyo, even by today’s standards. You’re welcome to argue the contrary, but it seems that a good majority of the community would probably disagree.

The MC has been on my to-try list for several years now and I’m sure it would be as great as any other One Drop yoyo, but to claim that it was ahead of it’s time is dubious at best.
As was mentioned by @anon5341354 the modified organic shape is nothing new and has been successfully implemented on several yoyos prior. The performance and playability of the yoyo is geared more towards relaxed casual play, so it was not exactly groundbreaking.
Continuous production does not always equate to a yo yo being ahead of its time. Production is usually tied to a product’s popularity or continued relevance. As @hobbygod stated, the Shutter has been in continuous production since 2013 and continues to be a top seller. The Freehand series has been in continuous production and evolution for 20 years now. The Protostar, Fast 201, and Imperial/Butterfly have also all been in continuous production since their release. Not all of these yoyos were ahead of their time when released but are still readily available.
Of the few yoyos that could be classified as ahead of their time (off the top of my head: original Freehand, SB2, No-Jive, Oxygene, Henry’s Viper, Ti Walker), the MC is not one of them. What made the MC unique was that it was a great playing organic yoyo released during a time when the majority of yoyo releases were H/V-shaped and competition oriented.

What seems even more dubious is writing out an extensive opinion on a yoyo that you’ve never tried before.
We can agree that continuous production doesn’t _always_ equate to a yoyo being ahead of its time, but in the case of the MC, I believe it does. The Shutter is another unusual example and probably was ahead of its time. I’m not arguing against that. All of the examples you give (original Freehand, SB2, No-Jive, Oxygene, Henry’s Viper, Ti Walker) seem like really good examples of yoyos that were ahead of their time. That does not invalidate my argument for the MC.
What truly sets a yoyo apart as ahead of its time is looking at what was available at that time. If I had no prior knowledge of the MC and you handed me one today, I would believe you if you told me it had been released this year. What other yoyos in a similar category from 2014 can you say that about? To stay relevant, competitive, and, dare I say popular, is unusual. The MC is iconic and was ahead of its time.
You should try one.

So, for yoers looking to snag a nice organic throw in 2020, is there a short list (3-5 throws) that MUST be considered? I appreciate the in-depth MC debate, but as one who is prepping to snag a proper modern organic when I have the funds I am wondering what the top 3ish options are. I realize that most contenders have been mentioned in this thread, but we’ve gone down the rabbit hole a ways since.

one drop markmont classic
a-rt grail
no particular order. there are others, better. but, you’ll be hard up finding them, or paying out the nose.

For whats available right now, I think the edgeless is really good. Often overlooked because its made by yyf, but its got a very nice feel. I also think the boa by reticulated is very good as well, and pretty cheap. My other options would be the 5 star or hatrick. They had rereleases recently, and although they are older designs, they are some of the best organics ever made IMO. Mmc is okay too, but definitely prefer the others i mentioned on this list to it.

The onedrop Intro and clyw Peak 2 are very good and very obtainable brand new. I highly recommend them both but the Intro is fantastic value for money. At almost half the price of the Peak 2 and plays just as well, you can’t go wrong.
I haven’t tried the MC but it is one I’d like to pick up in the future.
