Just got my spinworthy survivalist in the mail. This is officially the most interesting and durable yoyo in my collection.
Wasn’t thinking and did a bind out of habit and thankfully i didn’t get a knot on my first throw lol. This yoyo is pretty awesome. i love fixed axle and this is very different from my imperial or my wood stuff.

It’s an interesting yoyo. Only the second yoyo I’ve played that feels slow.
So much stability though that it still feels good when i play horizontal.

I thoroughly ignored this release due to the player it was made for (I in no way intend to rekindle that conversation)…but when I saw it popup on the bst, I thought: let’s go for it!
Well, now I am further relieved I didn’t buy this new. I’ve bought the majority of the A-rt releases over the last few years and am used to their “quality control”, but this one is a whole other level of wtf, really? Now, I can’t say for certain if this particular yoyo was sold as an A-grade\*, but maybe my idea of A-grade is too rigid? My wife would’ve flagged this yoyo as a B-grade without her inspection light! The ano flaws are beyond obvious (see photos).
\*I went back and looked at their ig, they stated the ano was flawed on this colorway and it was slightly discounted, although still not sold as “B-grade”. The flaws are atrocious and I, personally, would have sent the whole lot of them back.
One thing I will say, is it that this one is nearly dead smooth, which is more than I can say about most my other A-rt throws.
Ok, grading aside…how does this controversial child actually play? Terribly. Horrendously. Bad.
The high walls quickly reminded me why most modern yoyos have response bumps or schmoove grooves. Center weighted is an understatement, and the spintime leaves a lot to be desired. Binds have been VERY slippy, the rtv silicone is a little too far recessed (although this is easily remedied).
All that said…I hate to admit that I really like throwing this yoyo! It is challenging to play, but it absolutely encourages and rewards clean, well paced play. The high walls lend themselves to smooth regens. There’s a decent bit of float and the ring/ting of the string hitting the walls is rather satisfying.
It’s more frustrating than most slimlines…but as I throw it more and more I’ve started to hone myself in a bit and after only a short while had no issue hitting every trick in my book. Seems to me they have achieved the goal of this design.
So, in summary: glad I skipped buying it new (for moral, ano, and other reasons), but also happy I picked it up anyway. It isn’t the worst A-rt yoyo (_cough cough_ unnamed bimetal), but it isn’t one I’d recommend to anyone either. Pickup a 420L, B7, or D7 to get that prime A-rt feel. Sparrow, Quail, or Furn are also top choices.
The ano flaws are vividly present in large sections of both cups.

Oh yeah, Inhaler is undoubtedly the worst playing yoyo I’ve bought in the last few years. Too light and unstable for its own good. I’d rather throw a wiffle ball.
