I’ve said this time and time again, but if removing a bearing makes you feel like King Arthur, there’s a problem with the yoyo. Sometimes I really wonder how many people have stripped their yoyos entirely because of needing to use excessive force just to get the bearing posts on both halves to fit back onto the bearing all the way.
But yeah I’ve had multiple Doves and they had stupid tight bearing seats and a bit of vibe. The vibe never bothered me because I kind of expect that from plastics, but the bearing posts are definitely a disappointment. I like the Dove overall though, it’s one of the better plastics on the market in terms of performance and play feel imo, but your reasons for not liking it are perfectly valid.
Though I wouldn’t think less of FPM or yoyofriends for not liking their cheap(ish) plastic yoyo offering. I’d be a bit surprised if some of your favorite boutique yoyos weren’t produced by FPM. I think the tight bearing posts is more of a design trend than saying anything about their in-house machining or anodizing.

I would guess injection molded throws are likely outsourced by machine shops more often than machined delrin, but honestly we’re both shooting in the dark lol

Tight bearing seats is a trend because it mitigates vibe to an extent.

I mean I understand that much, but I feel like it’s just pushed too far. Honestly even a bit of string vibe isn’t enough to affect the play/performance of a yoyo, but a slightly too tight bearing fit is enough of an issue to cause people to strip yoyos just from trying to screw them back together. And too tight is also going to cause vibe eventually anyway from people messing up the bearing post just trying to remove the bearing.
There’s obviously a happy middle ground, One Drop is a good example, but I still feel like the trend of just chasing smoothness gives people an arguably better product out of the box, but one that’s harder to maintain and keep as good as it initially was. It feels misguided, and just driven by the weird idea that dead smooth automatically equals good yoyo.

I agree, but many people don’t. The amount of critique and criticism I see for yoyos with any amount of vibe is ridiculous, specifically for brands who are less settled. Brands like OD/ART can get away with it

I’ve never been bothered by a little vibe. Let’s me know it’s still spinning…😁
But i feel for you guys in the manufacturing business. It’s like you can’t win with the current mentality of “if its not dead smooth, its crap”
I’m much more concerned with how it plays. I mean, i don’t want pulse vibe or a throw that just shakes the whole time but seriously, it doesn’t have to be dead smooth to play incredible.

If I relax my own QC, my customers QC department will catch it immediatey.
With manufacturers who sell direct to customer, past the shops own word of internal QC, the customer is the last quality control. :wink:

I think you got a dud. Fpm makes yoyofriends which is one of the best manufacturers right now imo. They make some of the best quality throws on the market. My dove was dead smooth and played just as well as my speedaholic xx. Request an exchange is that’s how yours is playing cause it’s not how it’s supposed to.
