I just finished the realm of the elderlings epic and I’m struggling to find anything that compares to it (in fantasy). Currently trying the covenant of steel trilogy.

Only 74 pages in and I LOVE it! I wish I could read Russian so I could read the author’s original words.

It’s not as in depth high fantasy as this series but I would highly recommend The Cycle of Arawn series by Edward W. Robertson. The adventures and shenanigans that Dante Galand and Blays Butler get up to are hilarious and super interesting. It’s definitely worth a read or listen (the audio books are pretty good!) (i’ve read and listened to both haha!) by anyone that likes high fantasy IMO. It’s highly underrated / unknown but it’s one of my favorites. It takes a minute to get going but once it does, it’s a fun ride!
The three books in order are:
The White Tree
The Great Rift
The Black Star
Later Edward W. Robertson continued on with another series called the Cycle of Galand that is more focused on Dante’s adventures as a nethermancer. Blays also shows up in some of these books as well. It’s a 10 part series as of right now. I haven’t read them all though so I’m not sure how all it plays out. Either way, I would totally recommend the 3 books above first.

Finished the Court of Thorns and Roses series. I am now in the middle of the Glass Throne Series. Both by Sarah J. Maas.

How is the glass throne in terms of explicit content? I liked the world building in the acotar books but didnt really care for the more explicit scenes

Thorns and Roses was very sexually explicit.
It was very subdued in the first 3 books of Glass throne. 4th book has a little bit, but not nearly as much as the court books.
I am in book 5 right now.
Glass Throne seems more Strategy, Action than Sex.
Death and Destruction seems a little on the more gory side in this series.
What I like about Both is the underlying Good vs. Evil basis.

I am always reading some James Bond book, lol.
I try to keep a rotation of 1 non-fiction / self help and 2 fiction novels. Reading is more sparse these days than I wish, but yeah, that’s my current 3.

On the subject of Cormac McCarthy… I just finished Outer Dark and highly recommend it! it’s really excellent as well, less dense and not as epic as Blood Meridian but pretty damn grizzly in places, some of the passages were very unsettling, two in particular were tough to get through. The whole book has an incredible sense of impending dread.

No Country for Old Men is an awesome book. Love Cormac’s fast paced style. The violence in his books can seem gratuitous but I feel it brings the grit and realism into sharp focus.

No country is a great read, I’d watched the movie before reading the book and was amazed at how closely the movie sticks to the book. The Road is great too and fortunately I read the book before watching the also excellent film adaptation!
Out of the 5 McCarthy novels I’ve read the only one I didn’t love was the Orchard Keeper but I’ll probably revisit it.
Going to work my way through the rest of his novels that I haven’t read, Child of God is next on my list.
