It’s dirt cheap, consistent and just the right length out of the pack.

I might have to disagree with the consistency… I recently go a top yo Selene, and put a regular yyf green string on it. For some reason it wouldn’t wind for the life of me. Even hand winding it didn’t work. I could completely unwind the string by pulling on it. I put a fff blue on it just to see if it would help ( same size string) and suddenly it worked with no issues. Snappy binds, regens, and so on. I put another new green on, and no worky again.

I like messing around with different strings because it’s fun, but otherwise it really isnt important. I set up the light and floaty Doc Pop Icarus with some nylon and it feels like im playing on clouds. It is just another aspect of the hobby to enjoy.
As for pros, they are typically more focused on nailing their tricks as consistently as possible, and since different strings react in slightly different ways, it would probably be to their detriment to experiment around with it too much. I don’t take what pros do for gospel though, since I play for different reasons. They can use Kitty if they like. It’s a nice string, but I prefer something like a Zipline (perfect length, I dont even have to think about it) or Plutonium since they feel better longer and last longer. Personally I get satisfaction out of trying different strings on the same yoyo and seeing how they feel.

The term “thrower” sounds really corny to me.
I don’t have an issue with “throwing” but “throw” as in “my new throw” and “thrower” to replace yoyoer just don’t sound right to me.

I hated the term throw in all Yo-yo contexts when I first heard it. But now I found myself using it, and can’t decide if I like the term, or hate myself for using it.

I only say “throw” it to be “hip”. I prefer yo-yo, or yo. However it does makes sense because we do throw them.

Yoyoer and yoyo don’t have anywhere near as a good a ring as thrower or throw. Plus they’re 1 syllable longer, that’s just too much man.

I just think there’s a lack of great terminology to describe yo-yos and yoyoing. I agree terms based on yo-yo can be unwieldy, and the “throw” based vocab makes sense and is probably the best we can do for now. I can deal with calling yo-yos throws and have no problem with the term throwing, but thrower is just a little too much for me.
“I’m a thrower” just sounds kind of cringeworthy to me. Like I wish the yo-yo subreddit was yoyoers or throwing, throwers sounds like the term a team of shonen anime yo-yo heroes would use to refer to themselves.

Idk man, “I’m a yoyoer” sounds pretty cringy to me, and that’s for talking to both throwers and non throwers.
I think the moral of this story is yoyoing and throwing is just cringy in general 🤷♂️

Whenever I talk to people about yoyo, I just say I like to yoyo. Ive never once called myself a “yoyoer” or a “thrower”. I call professional yoyo players, “yoyo players”. Shortening it sounds cringy, I agree with Andy.
