How do those work and wouldn’t a yoyo immediately break them?

Lolol not useful while yo-yoing but good for warming your hands up during a break. I keep them in my pockets and warm my hands up a bit when they start hurting while I’m working

Wonder why so hot in the 1930s? Chart seems to show the long term trend for high temps in the US has been down over last 100 years

Would you believe that the answer to your question is actually “because of man made climate catastrophes “?

The 30s were hot because of the dust bowl. Top soil was blown away, leaving barren wastes that lead to exponentially hotter temperatures.

I get that. The chart is interesting because it seems to show the severity of “man caused” temperature changes has continually decreased over the last 100 years in the US. I’m wondering if this trend will continue as we transition away from fossil fuels to other energy sources.

I think a lot of people forget that we only discovered our influence on the climate after we started causing it. We didn’t know that the smog from burning coal was incredibly bad for living creatures, we didn’t even know how dangerous a plethora of our uses for lead were until we’d all been inhaling it and slathering it all over our walls for decades. Unfortunately, those untimely discoveries didn’t allow us to undo all the damage that was already done. The sheer devastation of the natural disasters that have occurred in the last 5 years is a drop in the bucket. We have seen nothing compared to the insane weather of some other planets in our solar system. We still live on a hospitable life-bearing planet for now, and should want to keep it that way.

I think it was the 1870’s-1880’s that we began recording the weather around the world, and we have that history. But, it wasn’t until (again, faulty memory, not looking it up) the 1970’s that we actually started looking at what was really going on, and even more recent that we have the ability to see what is really happening with what we are doing to the environment. But there is also evidence that the earth goes through weather cycles. I, somewhat recently, read a paper on how there is evidence that the earth’s poles flip-flop about every 400-500,000 years. So many we are in the middle of a switch 🤷‍♂️

Right; and our weather instruments are much more precise as well as able to take measurements remotely. The weather data from roughly the last two centuries has been created by people reading thermometers at remote locations. How accurate and consistent these readings are is a bit of a mystery that makes comparison of ordered data difficult.

The Earth has gone through five ice-ages that we know of. Each of these occurs at regular intervals called **Milankovitch** cycles that are caused by changes in the Earths orbit as well as its precession. This illustrates the concept of a “changing climate” perfectly. This is why climate scientists all agree that ‘the climate is changing’. Unfortunately, this does not mean what most hipsters think it means.

My grandparents had that same design (horse and carriage) on their screen door in Colonia, NJ. I haven’t seen that since 1979!
