Wow, that looks incredible… Pretty hilarious that a garage tinkerer can churn out a titanium yoyo in a few days with none to little yoyo knowledge yet the huge companies seem unwilling to touch the substance even though selling titanium yoyos is basically like printing money. Knock 8g off the weight and they’d sell like wildfire…

And for what it’s worth, I make a LOT of stuff out of titanium.
I make my living off of it in fact.
And, it’s already been 3 whole weeks since the first time I ever ran a CNC lathe!

The wall of the response area where the curve starts and the silicone ring ends could be a little smaller but that seriously looks like a great throw.

I left a bit there on purpose, hoping it would help me bind…
And It’s no mystery why the big companies don’t make Titanium YoYo’s
Figuring time and material on these today, and they would be $300 + , which means they would likely be $400+ after moving through distributors and stuff.
I honestly don’t know, but my gut tells me that the market is mostly young folks without that kind of expendable cash, making high priced Titanium a niche market, and not all that attractive to the big boys.

Yoyorecreation has sold through numerous runs of their Dazzler, a titanium yoyo, which depending on exchange rates has cost $500-$600. It’s not even a particularly great or innovative yoyo (i own one), but they still sell a huge amount. The market is probably a lot bigger than you imagine. I’d shell out $400 this second for a titanium yoyo in the specs i wanted. Love the material.

Well, that definitely makes it worth thinking about!
Just looked up the Dazzler, $650 here at YoYoExpert.
Not surprised at the price, but am a little surprised there’s a market.
It’s definitely a beatable price too, as my initial estimate is $300 - $400 each.
I know that I could make and sell a bunch, just to my fan base, but never really thought there would be a big market in the YoYo world itself.
I’ll give this some real thought in the coming weeks.
I notice that one is wider, and lighter than mine, is this desirable?
I expect tomorrows revision to come in sub 68 grams, but there is room to lighten it up.
I might need a couple of guys with skill to test out some prototypes and help me tweak the design.

Some ideal specs, based on average with what people prefer, are:
55mm-59mm diameter
43mm gap
63-67grams
Note that the weight means nothing unless it’s distributed properly. More center weight gives you more float and more along the rims gives you more solid/stability. If you could get it right in the sweet spot that’d be fantastic.

I love lighter yoyos (60g-63g), and done right they’re just amazing. Lighter yoyos seem to be catching on from what i’ve seen. I find them a bit more fun and faster to play with. Heavier yoyos can kinda feel lifeless and uncooperative to play with if they’re not done just right.

If it’s titanium there will always be a collectors market interested
I’d agree that 60-66grams is the popular area to shoot for these days. Especially with larger diameters and wider bodies. Can’t forget the maxed out gap.
It all depends though on how limited they are because everyone wants something rare and the titanium market of yoyos is limited already.
I do think that no matter the design though a group of throwers on here would end up buying it since it’s just cool. A responsive titanium production throw is unique and could get some good interest. As long as it performs well people will buy it. Cool packaging always helps too 😃

I think if you made it a little more wider it’d be great, also people usually prefer 67 grams or a bit less

And zirconium would spark even more, but I doubt the weight could be brought down on the zirconium enough.
It’s pretty heavy stuff.
Maybe some “spark” rings around the outside…

I would love to help you test it out and tweak the design but unfortunately, I know almost nothing about what you can change to make a yoyo better :P. There’s some people here who would be awesome at telling you what to change if they got a chance to throw it.

My plan is to bring the wall closer in to the response, and shave it down to 62 - 66 grams.
I’ll probably flatten the wall a bit too making it more V shaped, and less organic.

Everything sounds good, but i’m a little concerned about the gap width, too narrow and it might cause some bloody knuckles xD
