My Arctic circle spinning reminds me of denim…like stone wash or acid wash from the 80s. My Dietz reminds me of…Dr. Pepper like Chuckshort1 said. And, the Sovereign looks like a rainbow, of course. 😃 I mostly buy solids, but I have to say, for photography purposes, the splashes are more interesting. ---

I can tell you’re dialed in on the action shots. It took me an hour or so to get them to look right, but once I had it down, it wasn’t so bad. They are more fun to take than still shots. The yo-yo spins around and like a person moving, you have to catch it at the right moment for a good shot. I find myself thinking… :🙂 “Don’t spin that way…clockwise!!” But, it’s totally fun. 🙂 ---

I’m afraid I’m traveling at the moment, so I have no access to the original YoYo that I used. So, what I did is use the picture form the manufacturer so you can see the original look of the YoYo standing still. It’s a Square Wheels “Permafrost” colorway. The string was merely removed using Photoshop. I think your idea for this thread is great by the way, and I love the pictures you have posted !! I love the look of certain YoYo’s when they are spinning almost more than when they aren’t. You have to wonder how many colorways were developed for the purpose of looking really good when the YoYo is spinning, as opposed to when it’s not. I have several YoYo’s that look great spinning, but not so much when they aren’t. ---

Thanks for taking the time to post that. I have never seen that yo-yo before, and I’m glad I asked to take a look at it. I was wondering how those defined lines could be so clear on the sides of that yo-yo, but now I see. I haven’t seen anything quite like that before. You raise a very good point, in wondering how much effort goes into how these companies might plan the “spinning result” of their colorways. I suppose that Square Wheels throw looking so fantastic spinning could be a coincidence, but I’m inclined to believe that had to be planned to come out that good. I truly wonder. :-\ But, the result sure is brilliant either way. I have to agree, that I’ll never determine whether I “like” a colorway, in the future, based solely on the still shot. Maybe, if it’s just a collector that sits in my case, but if it will be played, the spinning result is very important. What a “before” and “after” on that yo-yo. It looks ten times better spinning. I still prefer solids, but I can appreciate these colorway splashes a lot more after taking some photos of them in action. I figured it might be Photoshop you used, or thought maybe the string was bright white and blended with the background when the shot was brightened. It looks like the yo-yo is unrestrained, and “free.” That is a really cool shot! You changed the game, so I will be experimenting with some close ups in my next post. Thanks again. ---

There are some throws that look nice still but get a bit icky when in motion. The rainbow splashed Mangaroo comes to mind. Looks fantastic stationary but looks a bit poo brown when it’s spinning. Yuki ---

Good point Yuki, the opposite is true as well. I’ll have to think which is worse. :-\ But, worse case scenario is probably a still yo-yo that’s ugly, and when it spins…it’s even uglier. 😃 I took a few more shots today, and Stickman changed the game with the close up shot, so I had to try one myself. I think most of the CLYWs blizzard colorways look kinda ehh cause the acid wash and the splash blend together. Unless it’s the ones that don`t have silver twice on it (splash + acid washed together).
