This video is from last night, about 4 minutes long, explaining my issues, and trying to show what I am doing in detail.
I woke up this morning, and I actually got some good spinners, last night was a hot mess though, especially with the longer OG string on the short circuit. With the longer string, the good spinners land a little behind me, and the shorter string has them right in front of me

Ok, looks pretty good, your button placement is fine, you can use either position, usually if I have an issue with a top being slippery and the string just popping off instead of unwinding, I try to place the button so that it is pulling the string wrap towards the crown, not the tip.
The string length determines how much the top rotates from tip up to tip down. If it is too short, it won’t turn all the way over, too long it flips too much. It is determined by where the wrap ends on the body. This is how I hold a top, and this shows how high your string should go for a 180 degree flip:
Your throw is okay, maybe throw a tiny bit faster, the top should land maybe a foot or so to the left of your left foot.
You are certainly on the right path, keep practicing!

@DaneMartin that video was super informative. I am still working on getting boomerang down. It currently flies back towards me at too much of an angle, but I will keep adjusting until it corrects itself.
