Lol, no problem, dude.

> I’m not trying to tell people how to live their lives, you are right, this is a free country. But what I was trying to get at is ‘who were my true friends’.

honestly, it’s hard to tell. I didn’t really find out until after High school ended. And you’ll realize who was using you and who really cared about you. But whatever, you know, just move on.

> [@](#):
>
> I had a constant battle with myself over some of these issues and what I should think of people.
> If someone close to me tries drugs or gets drunk, I really don’t care, its almost a natural thing to do. But if it becomes a part of their personality and/or lifestyle, then I’m kinda wondering why these people are my friends in the first place.

I think what’s important in this case is just to be there for them. They are free to choose to try alcohol or drugs, and you shouldn’t judge them. Some people are naturally curious to try these things, and I don’t think is a bad thing. But I do think these things should be under control. And I think it is important to talk about how you feel about it with them. If it does start to affect their personality, then you should let them know that you don’t like the way they’re acting, and stuff like that. Just be the best friend you can be.

> [@](#):
>
> I try not to get into this whole 'judging" thing, I’ve learned not to give a crap about what people think of me. I yoyo in public, and if people think thats weird, well at least I’m doing something productive instead of ‘judging’ other people in a negative way.

Lol, yeah, like I said, you shouldn’t be embarrassed to do what you enjoy. I got a lot of flack from people because I played Yugioh, but I had a lot of fun with it, and the people I played with were cool people. It was enjoyable to me, and it helped pass the time, and that’s all that really mattered.

> [@](#):
>
> Another point i was trying to get at is people can make the choices they want, but if they try to influence me into making those same choices… I have a problem with that. I do have enough confidence and willpower to shrug those people off. Sometimes its not easy either, especially when that ‘ever judging eye’ is criticizing you. Once again, I’ve learned to deal with that a little better.
> I personally hate all this drama, but in school it surrounds us.

I think just telling people “it’s just not my thing” or “I don’t drink” is enough, if they keep at it, just ignore 'em. I totally understand, if you don’t want to talk about something and someone is constantly trying to talk to you about it, it’s just rude. Even if it’s not constant, it can be annoying. You just gotta take this type of thing in stride.

Advice: Talk…a lot. to teachers, to friends, to other students you don’t know very well, to whoever. Talking is awesome.

> The problem I have with school is I can’t find a way to enjoy it. No matter how hard I try school seems boring. It’s like I’ve somehow convinced myself that I’ll never use anything I learn in school. Now, I’m a very logical/literal type of person. So when I find out that I have to spent years and years of learning stuff that I’ll forget a month later and never use again… that just seems pointless and illogical. Becasue of this I’ve come to resenting school. I still put in enough effort to get good grades, but the fact that I’m spending my life doing something I resent seem like I’m wasting my life. I feel like its taking away my creativity and free spirit. All because I’ve confined to a chair and told to “sit down and shut up”.
> Now I know deep down that school is not pointless, as we know, all succesful people go to college. Like Mark Zuckerburg and Bill Gates (sarcasm).
> However, When I come across certain subjects in school, I really get into it and really enjoy it. I just wish I could’ve spent my whole childhood learning those few subjects.
>
> Another thing I dislike about school is all the drama it brings. There is this constant tension or pressure between every single kid. If you do something stupid or say something immature, then this tension grows because you know people are judging you.
> The problem is teens are really stupid people. They do drugs, drink alcohol, speed in their cars, do “immoral practices” (aka, the dance with no pants), put religion completly aside, dress imodestly like they’re playing a constant strip tease to every person that lays eyes on them, getting tattos that makes them look like they have some kind of skin disease, and everything else my concious tells me not to do. If you don’t go along with it, then your “weird”. If you tell them to stop then your"socially a misfit".
> It’s a never ending problem that people have to deal with. What teens don’t understand is that this little game of peer pressure is the most immature, annoying practice I’ve come across in my life. Doing drugs to be like a gangster doesn’t make you cooler, it makes you a failure, it shows your mentally unstable and you can’t make decisions for yourself. Basically, it shows your weak.
>
> Sometimes I feel like the only thing guiding my path is my religion. As a little kid I was on the same path as everyone else. Playing games at school and learning the phrase “dont drink and drive”. I grew up in a perfect world it seemed like. Evil didn’t seem to exist.
> But now, all of a sudden, evil is everywhere. Everyone is running in a different direction. The only reason I recognize anymore is because of my religion. The only reason I don’t fall into the jaws of what everyone else in school is doing is because of my religion. Whether you believe in god or not, the benefits religion provides to a person of confusion, cannot be put into words.
>
> Advice- Don’t let other tell you what to do. If your in a free country, then be free. Hallucinating from drugs doesn’t seem like freedom to me. It’s seem like trickery. It’s all a scheme to make you buy the drugs to put money into someone else’s pocket.
>
> Advice- Be homeschooled

i was all my life, till i had the dumb idea to try public school, and wow… Worst decision of my life

ERS is fun… I suck at it.

We played poker a couple of times at lunch last year. Principle was cool with it. Vice principle, not so much.

Yeah, I sunno what’s up with school administration not letting people play card games. Like I get not wanting people to gamble, but honestly, if someone’s gonna gamble, they’re gonna gamble. No sense not letting them play cards…

My advice - Stay away from women. Pay attention and try and find some sort of interest in everything you learn, or twist it into a way that it appeals to you.

Experience - In grade 8, my “new media” teacher got me into video editing, I started on cool edit, little did I know that this would consume my life, by grade 10 I had worked all summer to buy my $1000 copy of Final Cut Studio and start filming biking. I was so focused on biking and video editing that all my grades dropped (i’m talking 60% for my best classes, and just lower from there) At this point my life consisted of my girlfriend, my bike, my video camera, not in that order. By grade 12 I was skipping 95% of my classes, I never left the school film studio, I only showed up to exam days. I had moved out and was living with my girlfriend and about halfway through the school year I dropped out. 2 months later, my daughter was on the way. Because of dropping out, I skipped around from job to job, had no career, no life plan, and by 2 year ago, I have 2 children. I dont regret anything I did, I learned alot about my life, myself, and about society. I wouldnt change a thing. I have 2 amazing children, im in school now finishing up my journeyman’s ticket and Red Seal, but if I could go back, i would have payed attention in school, I would have finished, and I would have tried to pass everything to the best of my ability. Thats just my $0.02 and if someone can learn from my mistakes, then good.

On a side note, im to lazy to look but someone said something about you get taught stuff you will never in your life use. School covers all bases, I hated trig and I used to get into argument with my teachers saying no I wont do this and I wont learn it cause when am I ever going to use it in my life, will I use trig when im buying groceries and figuring out how many miles/Gal i will get in my car, NO. But little did I know, I need to know those basics for my welding. I did geomatic engineering for 3 years, that is 1000% math and boy was I kicking myself for not just shutting my mouth and learning it. So I guess what I’m saying is you may choose a career that never uses some things you learned in highschool, no, I know for a fact that you will not use some things you learned in school and they will be lost in your brain, but some people will, and the things you might love in school other people see as useless cause they will never use it. It goes both ways.

The thing I hate about middle and high school, is that they teach you what they think you should learn, not what you want to learn.

In my opinion, your entire curriculum should be centered around something you enjoy. Like for me, Video and film production.

I think you should still be able to take electives, but this way, you’re being prepared for a career, and you’re enjoying it, because it’s something you choose.
