Circle your hand the opposite way the top is spinning. Should straighten it out. ---

Think of balancing a broom on your hand. When it tips forwards, you move your hand forwards with it to compensate. Now do precisely the opposite; if the top tilts forward, move your hand backwards. Precession is weird.
