I have a grind machine and a protostar. I have mastered all of the tricks up to boingyboing. When should i get my first metal?

When you’re ready, willing, and able. There are kids who start off with high-end metals, and others who have gone a long time before getting their hands on metal.

When you find something you really like and can afford. There’s nothing a metal can do that a Protostar can’t do.

Get a metal yoyo when you feel ready too.
I got my first metal around the level your at, unless you count my maverick that I started out with.

I don’t know about that. I didn’t get that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when I dinged my Northstar. Only a metal can make you feel that way. :wink:

You should get whatever yoyo you want whenever you want! Well, as long as it doesn’t cripple you financially. lol. As long as you can bind, a high-end (most likely expensive) metal yoyo is a work of art that you can admire and play with.
