# Protecting the Ano on a Titanium Koi?

So I have been doing some research and it seems Grade 2 Titanium is easy to scratch the ano off, so I gotta ask… is there a way to protect it? Sprays, finishes, services, what are my options? I want to take as best care of it as I can. I don’t have it yet, but I want to protect it when I do get it.

While I haven’t done it on an ano, I bought some Renaissance Wax to keep the patina on a copper yoyo from rubbing off. Probably a good option for ti ano too.

Final question. Does this protect against light scratches? I want something that won’t rub or ruin the ano. I just want to make sure if this or the renaissance wax works better
@AudreySickburn Does this protect against scratches, what are the issues/benefits? If so can you dm me I’m curious

They are both waxes. Anodizing is a chemical reaction with the metal. It’s not a coating. If you scratch the metal the anodizing gets scratched as well. I don’t think there’s an impenetrable coating that can prevent scratching

playing in a padded room, padded and or carpeted floors away from hard objects is your best bet. wax will not help much except for very very minor scuffs, just barely enough impact to remove the wax layer and slide off the metal underneath without damage..

It really only protects against light scuffs and abrasion. Like it could help keep the ano from fading with wear but it’s gonna still scratch and ding if it hits a hard floor.

I don’t hit the floor :thinking:
I guess I got all scared from how thin the ano layer is, I don’t mean big scratches or large gashes I mostly mean microscopic scratches since I just wanna protect the very rare lil guy I’m getting. If normal play won’t ruin the ano I should be okay, I never owned a Titanium before. Thank you everyone for answering me

Just to be clear though. Anodizing does not add a layer on top of the metal. The metal itself is the color.

It’s one of the reasons I’m getting rid of the Ti Koi, it sits in a box and does nothing. While I do throw it over carpet every now and then, I think it deserves a better home. I’m so relieved when I get that first ding on a new yoyo. Better to not have that worry on your shoulders when you throw.
