Does anyone know of a free program to combine and edit songs for a performance?

If you simply need a program to stitch together song sound files and do general editing of the files (like fades, compression, etc.), then [Audacity](http://audacityteam.org/) is really good and completely free. If you need complex editing of the actual songs themselves then you will need something quite a bit more complex (and very likely not free).

Sure you could use free software. But why settle?
