Yo!
When playing 1a with unresponsive yoyos, how do you prefer the level of response, between the two extremes of the spectrum.

I will take slightly looser pads over slightly too tight pads any day, snagging is annoying and painful…

i use alphaline mainly, but sometimes pads are TOO slippy for me. I like to think i prefer lesser response though, but it’s all relative

Lacerations and Regens are my jam. Nothing like the feel of some grippy pads on the string.

Okay pretend I said snappy instead of snaggy and relaxed instead of slippy bc y’all don’t seem to like the vocab I chose. Simple question though like do ppl prefer softer pads or harder pads. Just was curious.

Neither, enough response not to miss lacerations and other fancy binds but not enough response to snag and get hit by a metal object in the knuckles. If I had to choose I’d say slippy response because you can always adjust your binds even if it isn’t ideal

I want a snappy bind and I want it to be consistent and long lasting. I have flowable/red gasket for emergencies but prefer not to use them. I pour a good response, but it’s never the same twice, and flowable especially doesn’t last long enough when I’m playing 1 thing a ton. YYF naturals have been king for me for any yoyo that allows them. Snappy and consistent for what feels like an eternity.

Neutral grip for me (white pads) and also a 4.6mm gap + medium thickness string for my liking

High response for sure. A failed bind grinds my gears like nothing else. I like the grippy pads/ flush silicone, D bearings, fat string and highwalls. I’d rather combat the snag with smoothness and have less chance of missing a bind. I don’t enjoy them snagging when they shouldn’t but, most of the time a snag is my fault for playing sloppy. I like my binds to be low effort and be able to still get a tight bind at low RPMs. Some yoyos i have to make the loop so big for the bind that the yoyo almost touches my hand. And they still slip. Low wall C bearing throws alot of the time. Just not fun for me. I do use short string but i ain’t changing that.

If we’re talking extremes, I’d rather have slightly more snappy than slippy for sure. I have a more relaxed style and like binds and regens to feel more reliable. Ideally, I want something right in the middle that had reliable binds and doesn’t snag up too much.

I prefer softer. OD flow grooves are my favorite and I usually prefer neutral or softer pads over harder pads from other manufacturers.

For me the slippiest as it can be the better is, for me the perfect response is the Permatex grey when is worn out, the only thing I hate in yoyo playing is snag during a trick, it literally drive me insane.
On my daily rotation I have all the silicone quite gone and I like it more this way, until now the pads on the market are unusable for me and I tried so many of them.

</div>

Try to play with 3 or 4 layer of strings around the bearing during a tech combo and going against the natural rotation of the yoyo during combos, the snag is easily behind the corner and there is nothing you can do.

Hard to think that snagging is a skill issue when there are sooo many people that look around for worn out pads or pads that get consumed quickly (like the yoyofactory red ones for the contest setup).

</div>

High level of response only. I like playing with strings around the thickness of kitty normal strings and use relatively short string (90cm (5A main)).

Needing to put more effort into binding to get tight binds isn’t a skill issue in the way I’m thinking about it. I just want a minimal effort super tight bind every time. Snagging isn’t an issue for me. I snag far more with thicker strings on wider gap yoyos with hard response material, than thinner string on smaller gaps with softer response material.

But this is definitely relative to just the yoyos and setups I’ve personally used.

I get why people like wider gaps and slippier pads, but I heavily prefer more narrow gaps and softer response material. lt just makes sense for how I personally play yoyo.
