Summit 2 is on the way btw, stoked for that.

If anyone has a Savage Handcrash, Maple, Maple Leaf, Empty, or Bubble they’d like to send me for review please do.

I (may, because this isn’t a BST thread) be willing to trade in favor for some of these 👁 👁

EDIT: **SAVAGE HANDCRUSH ACQUIRED LETS GO** , I’ve also gotten a PC Hypernova, and First Base! The reviews are gonna dry up a bit after I drop those reviews as I’m leaving for the summer to Eugene (Yes I’ll go and visit OneDrop) but I have a Leaf video scheduled for this Saturday and another bigger project coming later this month.

Big days, I got a couple of yoyos to review and add to the list before nationals. Benefits of trying a bunch of stuff.

Anyways

The plastic category is absolutely packed, stuffed, and filled with yoyos that do what every company claims they do: be just as good as metal yoyos. 9 times out of 10, this tends to be somewhat true, but with the caveat that it’s one of the geriatric gentleman’s yoyos meant for a cool, calm, and collected cold fusion before a cold drink with the boys or a night out with your wife. Rarely ever does a properly good plastic compare to a properly good metal yoyo. It’s rare for a plastic to actually deliver on being as good as the best metal yoyos. The PC Hypernova is still not as good as the very best metal monometals. With the catch that it certainly far exceeds the disappointing, depressing, and overall dreary monometals that most plastics tend to harken to “minimum” comparisons. Overall, in terms of performance, it’s a great generalist, with a comfortable and easy playstyle. If you’re busting out bangers and behind-the-back combos, you’re gonna wish you had more or have to condition yourself to be a more gentle banger buster, but overall, you won’t be wholly disappointed.

The other side to this coin is that the PC Hypernova is a yoyo fine-tuned for those easy nights where you need something capable, comfortable, and overall, competent. It’s a companion for when you just need to take your thoughts off the fact that gas is running you an extra $1.50 than it was just 2 months ago.

In all, I think everyone should at least try the PC Hypernova. It’s no Wilderness, but it arguably outperforms and outdoes yoyos like the Shutter, Horizon, and sits in a more pleasant space than something like the Optima by a far margin.

Compared to some of its adversaries, yes, it is a bit expensive and strictly speaking, slightly underperforms. The Faceless is just as performant but cheaper, and the AoE is a great beginner/intermediate/expert yoyo that can do anything for about a quarter of the price.

But the reason you get the PC Hypernova isn’t that it’s the best yoyo you can buy for the money; you buy it because it’s good to have with you. It’s reliable, easy, and comfortable. Pick up, wow the neighbors or some fellow bargoers, then just vibe out the rest of the night.

Love the Shy, great yoyo. So I copped monometal, got it on accident from a mystery box.

It’s a monometal version of the Shy, so it’s good! Moves good, feels good, generally good. Oldheads will be averse to it, I think. I actually really love how this thing feels and moves. It’s great. Good generalist.

This yoyo should be everything the Savage was but even more. And in some ways, it is. In the good ways and the bad ways. It’s still a thrasher, but it’s still fatiguing to use. But ironically… It’s slightly nerfed. This yoyo leaves performance to be desired in a couple of weirdly particular ways. Obviously, the width helps, you have more catch zone. It’s pretty impossible to miss a trick on this. But to be honest? It’s missing the X-Factor of the original Savage. I’m not sure if it’s the profile or the weight distribution, but it’s prone to blowouts. So you have a ton of catch zone, but if you bump it wrong, the yoyo flops. Absolutely gut-wrenching. I wanted to adore this yoyo, but alas, I just have a cool beater now. Also, it’s snaggy as hell. I’ve swapped pads in this, diagnosed issues; it’s just snaggy. Sucks to suck, but it is what it is. Not as solid as it could be.

Genuinely, the Wilderness 7075 is more reliable.

Agreed that Savage HC is a bit of a letdown. Not bad by any means but they goofed up on gap width and bind interaction pretty massively imo. If you’re gonna get a Savage from YYR either stay with the OG or go with the 55mm variant.

PS. Pretty sure the snagginess comes from vaguely high walls for a comp yoyo alongside an average-narrow-ish gap. As I’m sure you know gingie you want the response area to move away from the pads as soon as possible for most comp yoyos and it doesn’t really do that.

I wrote an entire video for this yoyo. The script is fully done; I could’ve just posted it here to the forums as a review and gone next. The only reason I didn’t is that editing and recording are a miserable process for me right now and will probably only get more stressful going into the upcoming semester

Anyways, onto the actual yoyo

The Kagerou '24 is the penultimate form of the overhang rim trend that was EVERYWHERE in 2023-2024. The Kagerou that came out before it came out in 2021 caught a lot of momentum in the competitive scene after Remy used it for Nationals and Worlds, and generally speaking, the overall design caught on. I don’t think the original Kagerou was the first to use that overhang rim thing that was popular, but it was definitely one of the most popular iterations of that design ethos, maybe aside from the Klondike.

This is the new version of the Kagerou; it’s a bit wider. Lmao.

It plays really well. Ironically, in the two years since it came out, it’s a bit outdated, but it’s still good. Probably one of the best examples of a simple, good bimetal without any bells and whistles. It’s probably one of the most fussless yoyos ever. It feels fine-tuned to be well controlled and not restrict you in any other possible way. Doesn’t push you or condition you to play quickly, doesn’t lag much and drag you down. Highly capable. Rimweighted feeling is a bit forward. I’ve abused this yoyo since I bought it, lmao.

Here’s a life hack for guessing the alloy material: if you flick the yoyo on the rim/body and it makes a hollow/deep sound, it’s 6061. But if the sound has a higher pitch that’s almost similar to titanium, it’s 7075-7068.

Or just wait until spinkults spec sheet shows up

Sorry to be the erm ackshually guy, but erm ackshually this has more to do with design acoustics than actual mechanical properties of different aluminums. If you design something more in the shape of a bell or cone (such as the exaggerated shapes of the wilderness 7075 or the yyfr armageddon) it will sound more “tingy” than most 6061 yoyos simply because you can machine the walls thinner. If you make yoyos of milder design (see: my weasel) there is no _bleep_ way you could tell aluminum types apart since the metallic structure of the substance doesn’t really vary too much.

While the overall gist of what you said was vaguely correct, it’s more because you can make thinner designs with stronger materials rather than differences in the substance.

Sources: basic knowledge of physics, logic, etc.

**This is a review of the PC version of the obscura, not the Pom version.**

Dude, this yoyo rips. Genuinely. I watched Dis pretty distantly through their first two releases; didn’t love the Sibyl or the Anima, neither were my thing. I liked how both _felt,_ but I felt like they made compromises for that playfeel. Other people loved them, but they weren’t for me.

Now this? This thing rips. Tried it for the first time at a meet in Eugene and knew I’d have to track one down. It just is incredible. Seeing as it takes design elements from some great yoyos, it tracks. When you look at the profile, you can see the inspiration Remy got from the Kagerou; you can see what he was going for. Remy used the Kagerou to get into finals at Worlds, and he iterated on the Kagerou in a way that, imo, makes the Obscura better, which is saying a lot, because the Kagerou is already an incredible yo-yo.

The Obscura is just as good as the Kagerou in all the important ways, but differs in ways that just make it feel better. You still have that insane reliability and control of the Kagerou, but you lose some of the rimweighted sluggishness sensation. Added benefit of a hair of extra width. This thing has a ton of control, plays super, super pleasantly, and feels incredible on the end of the string, all while not making any concessions for performance.

It’s a beast that plays just as good as it feels. Would love to try the pom version, and I’ll be looking forward to more releases from Dis.

My only reservation is the sturdiness of the yo-yo. This sort of build has shown to have long-term issues.

**THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE PRODUCTION POM RIM MODEL, I JUST COULDN’T GET THE PRODUCTION PICS SO I USED THE PICS OF THE PROTO.**

I heard this thing was coming and was very excited. I liked the OG Adrenaline and sorta always wished I hadn’t skipped on it. Same goes for the NorAdrenaline. It just sorta always worked out that I didn’t have one in my hands. I saw the white-on-white protos and instantly wanted one. Then the colorways got dropped, and I knew I was gonna have one either way. Either one of the most pleasantly contrasted blue pom on silver on orange body, or another Initial D colorway. I was cooked. Sampled one just to make sure I wouldn’t hate the yoyo and instantly scooped the Keisuke colorway (Ryosuke when?) b/c I didn’t hate the yoyo.

I was actually very surprised by the Adrenaline Rush. It feels very, very solid; it has a very forward presence on the string. In practice, this makes it read as a much heavier and slower-feeling yoyo than it actually is, but once you get the Adrenaline moving, it gets FAST. It’s very deceptive. Very powerful, reliable yo-yo otherwise. Can be a bit fatiguing, but nowhere near the level of the Savage, and honestly, I find the Adrenaline Rush to be more appealing than the Savage in general. The Savage is all brute force. It was a rare case back when it came out, but these days, we have options. The Adrenaline Rush is one of those. It does everything the Savage does, but with healthy and proper restraint in some areas. It still has a forward rimweight sensation, but again, it’s not as bad as the Savage. More natural control, more comfort, and more healthy restraint than the Savage. I personally do prefer the Adrenaline Rush to the Savage, and I think the Adrenaline Rush will appeal to more people than the Savage.

So basically, it’s really good. I love the Savage. It’s been my ultra-reliable daily for two years straight. These plastic rim yoyos are super dope, but we’ve seen cases of them being fragile, so, there’s that.

I like when they spin. Particularly the good spinning types.

Small yoyo that feels rounder than it feels tubular, despite nearly being a 1:1 spec ratio (if the yoyo was a full-sized 56mm dia, it’d have a ~53mm width) Edition tends to make good yoyos. This is one of them. Didn’t expect to like it because undersized yoyos are always “omg it’s so good it plays like a fullsized yoyo even tho it’s undersized” (notice how “good fullsized yoyo” isn’t specified xd)

Thing moves suuuuper good. Really pleasant feeling. Maneuvers like it weighs like 2g less. Weight isn’t ultra forward despite the small size, I think that’s because it’s stretched so wide for its size. Feels super good. Pretty snappy and quick little yoyo.

For zoning/zontals, it has a weird tendency to not quite flop, not quite blow out, but just sorta, fall off axis? So like, it’s not like organics that blow out. Not sure if that’s because of the shape or the size. The rims are definitely sharp.

I learned bite stole on this.
