I’ve heard that for the first run of Nightmares, YYF anodized the axles & that they’re easy to strip. Does it still have that problem? ---

They did not anodize the axles. As far as I know, you cannot anodize steel in the first place, never mind by accident. Very Bad Things ™ happen when you try to anodize steel with the aluminum anodization process. What happened is that the axles were considered very short in the first run. Care and patience during screwing/unscrewing resolves this. From that run forward, they moved to a longer axle. Whether the first run can even accomodate a longer axle or not, I’m unsure. If the halves can accomodate it, but it just doesn’t ship with it, then your problem is solved if you end up with a first-run Nightmare… spend a few pennies on a longer axle. But I’d have to have that confirmed before I put any money on it. Trying to tighten when the axle is too long for the available space will strip the threads for sure. Side note: the axles rarely if ever strip. What people usually mean (even if they don’t say it) is that the threads in the yoyo halves have stripped, not the axle itself. Maybe that’s what you meant, but that would be a faulty pronoun reference in your post. :wink: Side side note: even if it were possible to anodize the axles, it’s a process that makes things stronger, not weaker… ---

The first run Nightmares are not tapped deep enough to take a longer axle. ---

Could you do it with a tap kit from Home Depot? ---
