New to performance yoyo’s, only previous experience was a yomega fireball, response type. I just ordered a starter kit with a DV888, a response and non-response bearing, strings, etc. Is there anything special I should do for set-up for first time use to get the most out of the yoyo? Any bearing prep I should do before assembly? Thanks! ---

Since you’re relatively new, and I’m willing to bet you haven’t learned a bind yet, you’ll want to use the thin bearing. Basically, leave it stock until you get the bind down, then install the thin pads, long axle and C bearing. You could clean the bearing you will use with mineral spirits or acetone, and lube with thick lube, but since I don’t think it comes with lube, you’re better off leaving stuff alone until you hit the point where you want to change guts, then you can clean the large bearing for longer spins and either run it dry or lube it up with a pin drop of lube. ---

Good deal, the kit comes with lube but I was thinking that unless someone told me to do it I was just going to stick with it the way it came out of the box until I got the bind down and had a preference. Thanks for the advice. ---

Damn this thing is vibey and not sleeping very long. I went to the store this morning and bought lighter fluid, followed instructions for cleaning bearing and putting back one tiny drop of fast yyf lube that came with it. Its better than before but still not great, possible it got dinged in shipping or am I just throwing it wrong? I have a center track that came with it, I may swap it out in the next couple days, just trying to learn to trapeze right now so I can get my bind going. ---

Its probably just your throw, did you try getting a good throw and then touching it with your finger to smooth it out? if it smooths out then its your throw, if it doesnt then you might have to tune the yoyo ---

I did and that seems to be it, not sure how my yomega and duncan I bought my son are smooth and this one is vibey but touching it during a sleep smooths it out a good bit. How the hell am I throwing it wrong? I just need to work on my technique, I’ll watch some video tutorials today and get t figured out. ---

Some yoyos are more susceptible to less than perfect throws than others. Just the slightest bit of misalignment will cause a bit of vibe. I’ve found this to be the case with wider, more rim weighted yoyos.
